I'm planning my mid-December trip to southern hemisphere. I've ended up with plane ticket reservations in British Airways and Quantas; I'll have to cancel one. Since prices/times are almost identical, I wonder if any CPians have opinions on service in these airlines. All input appreciated, especially horror stories :) Tomasz Sowinski -- http://www.shooltz.com

Personally I would go with Quantas, as their logo has a kangaroo on it. I hope this helps. Ryan Johnston

I've flown BA (Chicago/Heathrow and Chicago/Birmingham) several times. Service was great! I've never flown with Quantas.

BA, if only because I got an upgrade to Club class on a flight back from San Francisco to Heathrow - 6 feet of legroom & lie-flat seats - mmmmm!!!! ;P Stuart Dootson 'Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p'

I like both myself, but I'd go with Qantas, which, AFAIR, has never had an airline accident.

Qantas has had a bunch of accidents. Bits falling off, a plane skidding off the end of the runway. The standard of servicing of Australian planes is excellent, however with cost cutting getting a little silly I'm never 100% sure anymore. Just last year (before they went bust) Ansett Airlines Australia had part of their fleet grounded because it was discovered the routine servicing hadn't been carried out. Even so, Qantas have never lost a plane. Qantas has an almost monopolistic hold on Australian domestic travel and for the last few years the general consensus among my friends who fly them is that service has gone downhill big time. I'm flying to Canada this Thursday and will be flying Qantas but aren't looking forward to it (my 1 other international with Qantas was not fun). If it were me I'd be trying BA. I know - not very parochial of me but I've had too many crappy domestic Qantas flights so the sooner they start getting the messages that customer service *is* important the better. cheers, Chris Maunder
