Not by me, but there were several things that simply made me go W...T...F... so I thought it would be nice to share with the rest of you to see what we're in for with windows 7. I can already say I hate new windows taskbar even though I've never used it. http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/win7_simple.asp[^]

"(The Windows 95 taskbar exhibited other "firsts" that continue to this day: It provided a single button for accessing common system functions like help and shutdown. And it could optionally display the time.)" Hardly "firsts".

"Now before anyone gets the wrong idea, I'm a huge fan of Windows 7 and I like most of what Microsoft's doing with this product. I just think that some of the changes they're making should be rethought, or at least actually tested with a broad audience before they're unleashed on an unsuspecting public. This is my attempt, at least, to air some of these concerns. --Paul Thurrott December 2, 2008" Well (correct me if I'm wrong) windows7 is still in beta and isn't released to the public yet. The whole idea of a beta is to get it tested with a broad audience. Lets not start shooting this OS before it has even gotten to the market, who can honestly say that they'v ever created a program that worked right from the start without any problems? I think it's still a bit (much) to early to start saying that windows7 is 'bad' or 'good' it has only been out for a few days now, give it some time.

Amen to that. Funnily enough, that's how every thread about windows 7 ends these days. Learning is repeating, maybe we should add to the Lounge rules: - W7 is still a beta, wait before bashing. And this one: - W7 is still a beta, wait before bashing. Another couple: - W7 is still a beta, wait before bashing. - W7 is still a beta, wait before bashing.

Downloaded an installed on an old PII 1.8mhz with 512mb ram box. Seems okay; ran quickly enough and looks okay. Some of the features will take some getting used to, as with all new software, but it looks good and is easy enough to navigate.

His beef is that Windows 7 is simpler, but not easier. Ok. I understand what he means. But then he says the only way to make things easier is to do what the Zune team did: rewrite it. That seems to be the answer to every software problem these days: rewrite it. Rewriting something is tempting, but one must realize that years (in Windows' case, decades) of bug fixes and edge cases are accounted for, and if those things aren't there in the new rewritten version, people will be ANGRY. And we haven't even mentioned compat problems associated with "rewriting it". Heck, Windows Vista's driver subsystems were rewritten, and all that caused was a world of pain when Vista was released. Simpler, but not easier, so rewrite it. Sigh.

You forgot one very important thing: you can set it up to behave like before. Do you still hate it?

Seriously, though - before putting out a beta, it should have gone through much more stringent usability testing. I don't want Windows to do things differently. I want it to do them BETTER. So far, I've seen no compelling reason to buy Vista 2.0 when it comes out.

Correct. you cannot spend $300+ for Windows Vista Service Pack 4 :) . Looks like Windows Vista with UAC turned OFF + Touch + something...

Can you? I thought I read that MS was convinced the new not-a-dock bar was so shiney they weren't going to provide any legacy option at all.

That's a little aggresive, don't you think? From what I've read thus far, it's more like Vista SP3 (SP2 is due out Real Soon Now).

Ah, now I understand. No problem, we are all newbies at one time or another. Your English seems to be improving.
