Another Windows 7 impressions

Not by me, but there were several things that simply made me go W...T...F... so I thought it would be nice to share with the rest of you to see what we're in for with windows 7. The whole idea of a beta is to get it tested with a broad audience. I think it's still a bit (much) to early to start saying that windows7 is 'bad' or 'good' it has only been out for a few days now, give it some time.

Amen to that. Funnily enough, that's how every thread about windows 7 ends these days. Learning is repeating, maybe we should add to the Lounge rules: - W7 is still a beta, wait before bashing. Downloaded an installed on an old PII 1.8mhz with 512mb ram box. Seems okay; ran quickly enough and looks okay. Some of the features will take some getting used to, as with all new software, but it looks good and is easy enough to navigate.

His beef is that Windows 7 is simpler, but not easier. Ok. I understand what he means. But then he says the only way to make things easier is to do what the Zune team did: rewrite it. That seems to be the answer to every software problem these days: rewrite it. Rewriting something is tempting, but one must realize that years (in Windows' case, decades) of bug fixes and edge cases are accounted for, and if those things aren't there in the new rewritten version, people will be ANGRY. And we haven't even mentioned compat problems associated with "rewriting it". Heck, Windows Vista's driver subsystems were rewritten, and all that caused was a world of pain when Vista was released. Simpler, but not easier, so rewrite it. Sigh.

Seriously, though - before putting out a beta, it should have gone through much more stringent usability testing. I don't want Windows to do things differently. I want it to do them BETTER. So far, I've seen no compelling reason to buy Vista 2.0 when it comes out.

If you dont want to read try this[^] Look at ease of the windows management in this video[^] Just installed on my pc and looks good... and looks like Windows Vista Service Pack 4, faster then vista (still not able to find any problem with windows vista since 1 year).
