You forgot one very important thing: you can set it up to behave like before. Do you still hate it?

Can you? I thought I read that MS was convinced the new not-a-dock bar was so shiney they weren't going to provide any legacy option at all.

Seriously, though - before putting out a beta, it should have gone through much more stringent usability testing. I don't want Windows to do things differently. I want it to do them BETTER. So far, I've seen no compelling reason to buy Vista 2.0 when it comes out.

That's a little aggresive, don't you think? From what I've read thus far, it's more like Vista SP3 (SP2 is due out Real Soon Now).

I would expect nothing less from you, John. In the 4 or so years I've been on CP, I can't remember a single new technology that you liked, let alone a beta.

I can understand your posts better. Whether that is because of an improvement in English or in typing skills is something you would have to determine.

"Now before anyone gets the wrong idea, I'm a huge fan of Windows 7 and I like most of what Microsoft's doing with this product. I just think that some of the changes they're making should be rethought, or at least actually tested with a broad audience before they're unleashed on an unsuspecting public. This is my attempt, at least, to air some of these concerns. --Paul Thurrott December 2, 2008" Well (correct me if I'm wrong) windows7 is still in beta and isn't released to the public yet. The whole idea of a beta is to get it tested with a broad audience. Lets not start shooting this OS before it has even gotten to the market, who can honestly say that they'v ever created a program that worked right from the start without any problems? I think it's still a bit (much) to early to start saying that windows7 is 'bad' or 'good' it has only been out for a few days now, give it some time.

The earlier you complain, about what you consider to be issues, the faster it can get fixed.

I like LINQ, so neener-f*cking-neener... :) As far as betas are concerned, you won't find any software on my machine with the word "beta" in it, especially if it's from Microsoft.

I'm with John on this one. LINQ and ASP.NET MVC are fantastic. I have yet to find one thing in Vista that I like better than XP. The only reason I'm using Vista atm is for IIS7. Granted I don't use all of the features on Vista but for me the features I do use on a daily basis are annoying on Vista when compared to XP. (VS2008 > VS2005 > VS2003) < VS6 :D

Not by me, but there were several things that simply made me go W...T...F... so I thought it would be nice to share with the rest of you to see what we're in for with windows 7. I can already say I hate new windows taskbar even though I've never used it. http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/win7_simple.asp[^]

The "dock" concept (mixing launch and running program icons, with a single icon able to do double-duty for both functions) dates back at least twenty years to NextStep... And frankly, bringing this functionality to the Windows taskbar has been long overdue. Screen space is precious, even on today's large screens; wasting it on duplicate icons for launching, switching, and program status display has never made sense.

You're right. These facts that you've laid out totally contradict the wild ramblings that I pulled off the back of cornflakes packets.

I hope you are not using any product from Google. The most of the products from google are still in Beta. :-)
