Just downloaded the final after using and disliking the various prereleases for a while. Still a few minor problems, but overall it is fantastic. I'm looking foreward to many incredible plugins based on this new architecture... :D

Hmm. I hate it! It's sluggish and it crashes way too often (playlist operations are among the suspects). As for the plugin architecture - I couldn't care less... :) I always download the light version and listen to music. Although, some of the visuals are nice if you have a soft party. Dim lighting, a projector and some nice music on the playlist - <austin-powers>Grooovy!</austin-powers> Preferred storyline: - I am your father. Search your feelings and you'll know it's the truth. Together we can rule this galaxy like father and son. - Ok dad. Let's kick some butt!

        • Media Library - this is long overdue, still not up to FreeAmp quality in some respects, but the query feature is a big plus.
        • Multiple playlists loaded at once. Yes, you could kinda-sorta make due with multiple instances in WinAmp 2.xx, but even then you didn't have
        • Multiple playlist editors open at once, with drag&drop between them.
        • Enqueue/Dequeue within a playlist.
        • Minibrowser displays Band / album info
        • Clean, scalable, easy-to-read interface.
        • Potential for fun, weird-shaped, alpha-blended, animated skins, with lots of small, strange, hard-to-find buttons. (ok, some of us know the shortcut keys... ;))

Not bad, about equal with WinMP in some respects now but the sound quality still isn't quite as good as Media Player with the SRS WOW effects turned on. There is a lot I like about it, though. -- Andrew.

Not that explorer isn't great and all, but at best you can create a folder of shortcuts; it's just not the same as a carefully arranged playlist. What i want is to be able to navigate through songs, playing bits of each, until i find what i'm looking for, and then add to a playlist. I could almost do this with Win2k, even though ID3 tag support sucked, but now with WinXP that nice little sidebar media player is gone (and just when they got decent ID3 support *and* grouping...), so that's a wash. loket wrote: I take it these 2 are jokes. Not the first one. Did you actually look at the default skin, or did you go straight to 'Zygote'? It starts out looking almost like WinAmp 2.xx! To be fair, it wasn't as though i was without options; there are plenty of different programs around to use working with MP3s. Between WinAmp, FreeAmp, and Explorer, i was set up pretty well. But, WA3 just makes a few things a bit easier - nothing wrong there!

I was editing some mp3 tags, and I found it more of a hassle than 2.x. Also, the settings vanished *every* time. Besides, I moved all the little windows to my secondary monitor and then they forgot their positions. Winamp 2.x does not have a cool library like W3, but at least W2.x works. I'm a confused: w2.x wasn't broken. It does need a database-type song management sytem (Explorer works but is not ideal) and flexible skinning would be cool, but what was so broken that they had to re-write the whole thing? _____________________ "So in the interests of survival, they trained themselves to be agreeing machines instead of thinking machines.
