-20F (-28C) this morning. Subtract a few more degrees to compensate for the wind and it is a damn frigid morning. For any of you who have never experienced this kind of cold... it physically hurts to be outside. Who else had a freakin' cold morning?

I have experienced -37C once. I bought myself a hot Pica from the nearby bakery and for less then 2 minutes walking back to the hotel it becomes a frozen stone.

Where in IL are you Mike? Chicago weather says -6F now. Towns further south are warmer (-2F or so).

Not as bad here, 1F and no wind -> YET. Tonight it's supposed to go down to -5F with a 20MPH wind - wind chills going down to -25F. It's not North Dakota type stuff, but damn cold for south-east Michigan.

0F/-18C here in St Louis this morning, a record for the day. Not to worry, it's a positively balmy 1F/-17C now though. Windchill: -20F/-29C

LMAO, I remember seeing a report on the Mpemba Effect when I was about 12 years old and it was a fresh phenomenon. I still remember the terrible way his teacher treated Mpemba, while refusing to do the experiment himself because Mpemba's reported results violated "common sense."

We also had -20 this morning; with the wind the chill factor was -45 or something like that. What makes me mad is that one of doors at work kept getting caught on snow/ice build up and was being held open. It normally only opens with a key card. So rather than maintenance REMOVING THE SNOW, they locked the door. So I had to walk to another door in this lovely weather.

That's pretty frosty. Also you'll notice if you listen carefully that at those temperatures the quality of sound is different because of the cold air. To me it sounds "swooshy" is the only way I can describe it. I used to live just off the Alaska Highway up north and we regularly got -40 in the winter. Weirdly though you can get used to it, the body is am amazing thing. One evening just after work I was driving home, it was just before christmas, and the road was pure ice and it was about -35c and I slid off the road and rolled on to the side. I had to walk back in to work (it was the boss' truck that I was driving) and took me about 20 minutes to get there. I was pretty close to frostbite even with the full winter gear on. Later that evening it went down to -42c when we finally got an appointment with the tow truck driver (a *lot* of people went off the road that day). We met the tow truck at the scene of the accident, the drivers helper jumps out and he's wearing a jean jacket and jeans and crappy gardening gloves and a baseball hat and half frozen to death. Turned out he just came up from Vancouver (where it was +5c that day) to start his new job with the tow company and they had been out all day pulling cars out of ditches. I don't know what kind of sadistic bastard the tow truck driver was but that's just cruel. :)
