As the resident nerd I've always been the keeper of the photo album (Gallery2[^]) for my far flung extended family. After posting our holiday gathering photos this year I ran this site: Animoto[^]. You download photos and it will create a video that animates them to a sound track of your choice. You can also add text frames to the video. The video effects and montages are cool, but what's really clever is that the visual transitions are synchronized to the music. 30 second videos are free, but $3 for an extended length clip is well worth it. Since everyone here is also a nerd: Animoto uses Amazon Web Services[^] and all the rendering is done with EC2. This is a great example of a site that leverages the scalability of the "cloud" in order to maintain customer satisfaction.

I've always been of the mind that I'll happily look at and click through someone's photos but the second they are set to music and in a slide show and I have no control over what I look at I'm bored to death in about 1.2 seconds. :)

I'll add that if it takes more than about 2 sec to find the mute button for any audio that starts playing without my wanting it the browser tab is closed.
