Well, when this "stimulus" package doesn't "stimulate" anything more than inflation, will Obama stand up and say "I messed up again?" Good luck to us all --- we're going to need it!

Nope, he'll say those 3 dirty Republicans passed it. Or blame the Republicans who didn't vote for it for somehow breaking it. Or just blame Bush for "the last eight years", some more. Or he may be more subtle and point to the 40% of the bill dedicated to "tax cuts" which is code for "Republican's fault". Funny, he got elected by promising "tax cuts" and now it's a "failed economic philosophy".

So here we go, plunging head long into a problem that isn't completely understood with a solution no one has even read.

It concerns me greatly that Obama's primary response to any criticism raised by Republicans is to blame them for the mess (they certainly helped) and to claim that he is the little Dutch boy, single-handedly holding back the incursion of the Seas of Destruction while anyone who opposes the bill is busy drilling more holes in the dike. Regardless of who won the election, the Republicans in both the House and the Senate may have some insight to share (With the possible exception of Pete Sessions who announced that the Republicans are studying the techniques of Al Qaeda :wtf: ) I keep trying to plow through the bill and read some commentary on it at the same time. I don't pretend that I can say that I understand it totally. But I keep wondering why, if some of this stuff will not have any impact on the US economy for the next two years, it can't be excised from this bill which has been labeled "super-urgent," and considered later, after we have had time to take a look at what the impact of those parts of the bill that can be started up immediately have had. A cut in payroll taxes could be implemented almost immediately and while it might not be as sexy as a new icebreaker for the Navy, it damn well would put more money in the hands of the people who need it, and if they put it in the bank rather than spending it, then the bankers can spend it by giving out loans to people who want to make big ticket purchases. There are shovel-ready infrastructure projects simply waiting for funding. And there are people who need to use the safety net, so let us make sure that states have the funding needed for unemployment benefits, even if they have to turn the airconditioning down and let the temps climb above 68F.

Simple. Stimulus is not what he's interested in. Funding his 4 year agenda is.

I just sent off a scathing email to AARP (as I'm a member, and getting close to retirement). I'll be goddamned if any bureaucrat in Washington is going to tell MY doctor what he/she can/cannot do regarding my health! Christ, we thought Hillary was the problem in health care. Guess we were wrong --- it's F*CKING DASCHLE!!! Now I'm really mad! And sorry, Jon, I cannot wait another 6 months to not whine about this administration! In less than a month, this butthead is leading us to ruination! I hope this is "the change we can believe in" for all those who voted for Barry! This is dejavu all over again. The Carter years are soon going to be upon us once again. High inflation, higher interest rates for sure, prolonged recession, and we'll probably get our asses kicked around the world again. I hope we have enough cruise missiles to fire off to show that "we mean business".

Well, now I am really pissed off. I am going to make the rest of my life's work in defeating every SOB (both Republican and Democrat) who voted for this bill. They are not worthy to be called "Congressmen", and I'm not sure I would claim them to be "Americans" either. It's time for these SOBs to see what life is really like and hold down a job besides on the public dole. I am thinking of turning each and every one of them in to the IRS as tax cheats. I probably will be right at least 50% of the time. We need to set up an organization that keeps tabs on these idiots' coming and goings. We need some people at Andrews AFB to let the rest of know when these "public servants" ride back and forth from their homes to DC on government jets, instead of taking a commercial flight on an economy fare. We need people in the states of these morons and let the rest of the world know what they are up to. Where their campaign money comes from --- anything that can be used against them at election time. And we need to find HONEST CITIZENS who have the knowledge and capacity to run for public office that care more about The United States of America than their own fat wallets. Anyone who comes out of office as a millionaire, when he wasn't one when he went to DC, needs to have their life investigated for the time they were in DC. It's time we, the people, stand up and take back OUR country from these pimps and whores.

I recommend the "No-I" voting rule. The only way to reform our government is to impose term limits as voters. No incumbent should receive a vote. If they did well, then "thanks and take a rest", if they were shit, then "don't let the door hit you in the rear". Senators are the worst because of the length of term- half way through the 2nd term they all decide they "know whats best" and are entitiled to the job. Vote "No-I".

I see the investment community has voted --- -370 points, or so. Congrats, Mr. President, you seem to be getting your 'legislation' that you wanted. Seems there are quite a few who would rather not have it. Just where is the 'stimulus' in this piece of crap? Please show us how many jobs have been saved in a) the 1st 6 months, and b) the 1st year. I can't wait to see the numbers! ALL YOU WHO VOTED FOR OBAMA!!! --- Please tell us where the 'stimulus' is in this bill, besides the tax breaks and the welfare disguised as "earned income credit". I'm talking about the plans to spend this money that is going to create those 4 million jobs.

Obama's not the problem, just the poster child. Ths started in 2006, in response to the republican Party's complete abrogation of its ideals. We ended up trading one set of thieves for another.

He may not be the entire problem, but while he is President, the buck stops there! Just like Bush! Let's see how gleefully he signs this bill of pork. Maybe he'll use a pen filled with BBQ sauce for ink?

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. The country will need luck if the likes of you have any influence over the direction of economic policy. Worrying that the stimulus policy will stimulate inflation is akin to worrying that giving food to an underweight, malnourished person will produce obesity.

And your economics degree is from where? How the hell do you think the government is going to be able to AUCTION OFF all the T-Bills that are going to be needed to fund 2-3 TRILLION MORE DOLLARS, John? You think that China and the rest of the world is going to line up to buy bonds paying 0.2 - 0.4% interest?? You can criticize me WHEN AND IF inflation remains a non-factor. Maybe you should read up on what other economists have to say about this bill of pork. As I said earlier in another post, show me where any JOBS are going to be created from this legislation, especially the 4 million Obama spouted off when he was campaigning? And now that we are headed for Big Brother telling all of us what kind of health care we can use, I hope you don't get some disease that costs a lot of money to cure, cause Big Brother is going to tell you that you need to find a cure that is less expensive. Geez, to have some bureaucrats in Washington telling me what I can have as far as medical care is concerned, I think I'd rather trust my own doctor --- how about you?

Hey don't apologise to me - I never promised you'd keep quiet, I just tried to help you fulfill your promise. Nor do I blame you. I am,frankly, amazed at how much crap has come out of the White House in the short time since his innaugeration. I am not sure that very many people expected him to swing this far left this fast. 'Twasn't that long ago that Stan was saying that he knew he had to move to the center to govern and now it appears that he either doesn't know it, or is determined to move the country to the left. His remarks of the last couple of days have angered and saddened me. Many years ago I began saying that the problem with the American electoral system was that it had evolved from electing the best man to electing the best campaigner. In a few short weeks, he has reminded me of my, far from unique, observation. :( Not that long ago they were talking about how Rob Emanuel was going to keep Pelosi in line for Obama. Now I am beginning to think that his job is to keep the President in line for her.

He may not be the entire problem, but while he is President, the buck stops there! Just like Bush! Let's see how gleefully he signs this bill of pork. Maybe he'll use a pen filled with BBQ sauce for ink?

I have to agree totally to your viewpoint. I also have to admit that I thought he would be a lot smarter, politically, than he has so far shown. But this bill of pork that is inevitably going to become law is a travesty. How and where does this bill create any jobs, much less the 4 million he said would be created while campaigning? Mr. John Carson doesn't feel that this bill is inflationary in any sense of the word. If I am to believe the financial advisers I have been paying for the last few years, it is just a matter of time. Be prepared to put your stocks and bonds in money market funds. I feel certain that we are about to see the second coming of the Jimmy Carter years again.

*psst*! You're supposed to toss out your own credentials when challenging someone else's opinion based on their lack of such paper. Otherwise, you just come off sounding like an elitist hypocrite...

Thanks for the warning --- unfortunately, I don't have an economics degree either, but I do read avidly the opinions of other people who do have degrees in economics and are savvy investors. I trust those people who put up their own money a lot more than I do some academic economist.
