This is one of the best articles[^] that I have read on the topic. As you read his points middle class Indians will agree with every single one of them. As middle to upper-middle class Indians we are more affected by acts against our own kind than against the lower classes (with who we don't identify with). For example we were all stunned by the Mumbai attack on the 5-star hotels, yet the same number of people die every week in Kashmir. We were stunned when a dozen women were attacked in a pub in Mangalore, but every day far worse acts are committed against poor women all over India. We are snobs - end of story :-(

    Regards, Nish

I have really learned to admire you, Nish. I may not always agree with you, but I sure as hell respect your opinion and your unflinching honesty. Your post is a perfect example of what i am talking about.

Yup good article, reminds me of Che “If you tremble indignation at every injustice then you are a comrade of mine.” Also causes me to remember being in the UK and playing pool, eating tasty samosas, drinking a pint of bitter and watching an exiting Indian film on a screen in an Indian pub.

It is as if poor people don't count. However, there are some exceptions Nish. Kerala is one state where I don't see this distinction. To an extent it has a "everybody counts" attitude. I guess it has something to do with the social reforms introduced by the Marxist government which came to power for the first time in 1957[^] and then ruled Kerala in alternating stints ever since.

Could you please email me when Stan finds this thread ? I'll make popcorn ( Stan thinks that any form of government other than Jeffersonian democracy can only do evil, and should be crushed against the will of those who choose it )

You have to get the CodeProject Biomedical chip implanted. Then after you consume enough beers it's added to your account. to use  enter colonbeercolon where colon is ':', have fun :jig:
