At what point do any of these things keep you from actually owning a firearm? It isn't my right to know the psycho down the street has one? That's all these measures would do. Worried the men in black suits will come and take them from you?

Do I have a "right" to know what you do and do not have in your house? Is that what's next? How about your browsing history, do I have a right to look at that too? What about a list of the books you've read, what your diet is, what you do with your money? Actually, I almost forgot, some of that's coming in the health care junk shoved into the "stimulus" bill that's about to pass without anybody seeing it before hand. However, Texas has been looking at a law that will allow you to carry unconcealed. There are some good arguments for letting everybody know up front that you have a gun. But you sure don't have a "right" to know if I have one, and it will be a sad day for liberty when you do.

I'd be happy if people knew I had one or not. It would make it easier to deter thieves which might be on the rise thanks to unemployment. Oh, wait, we elected them all to office already. Scratch that. :-D I was just playing devil's advocate. I'm kind of with Mike. Keep one handy in case they come for it and make sure they don't repeal the amendment without any conversation and a DAMN good reason (of which I can't think of any at this point). I do however see the use to having courses in gun saftey before purchase. That just makes sense to me. How many kids have blown their head off because they found dads revolver in the closet?

No, no more than it's my right to know any private info about you. What good, exactly, would it do for you to know? Would it stop you from treating him in a manner that you likely should not in any case? It's nothing more government intrusion for intrusion's sake, no different than warrant-less wiretapping.

Hey, it's keeping me employed so far. I'm trying to lobby for C# when everything gets converted. In the meantime I have side projects I consult for in my free time in C#. Now go kick some puppies or something rather than troll here.

not at all, I have a 16 guage to handle that very problem.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. True, that is the ever important "we can't tell you until we do it" clause. I notice those in a lot of recent legislation. I might need to upgrade the arsenal a bit now that I think of it... :)

Guess I should have put the joke icon on first like I was meaning to... :) As I said above however I do see the value in mandated safety training. It makes sense to me because more people who have never seen a firearm up close are getting them and end up with dead kids because they don't care for them properly. Just going for the lowest common denominator. Unfortunately they don't realize you can't legislate against stupidity and Darwinism must take over at some point ;P

Absolutely, nothing wrong with that. As long as the government's envolvement ends at requiring sellers to require a course before sale.

Damn few in the grand scheme of things. Of course one is one too many, but there are myriad more pressing issues dealing with childrens safety these days.

I was caught in a similar job a while back. Problem was, this massive VB web project didn't want to convert to C#. As far as I know they're still running that VB.Net, framework 1.1 app.

Indeed! Kidnappers and Molesters for example. We certainly need to put far more effort into dealing with those monsters than we need to put towards gun control.

                        House Bill H.R. 45 1. Require licensing for anybody that owns a gun. 2. Would require photographs and a thumbprint 3. Would require passage of a test that covers: (A) the safe storage of firearms, particularly in the vicinity of persons who have not attained 18 years of age; (B) the safe handling of firearms; (C) the use of firearms in the home and the risks associated with such use; (D) the legal responsibilities of firearms owners, including Federal, State, and local laws relating to requirements for the possession and storage of firearms, and relating to reporting requirements with respect to firearms; and (E) any other subjects, as the Attorney General determines to be appropriate;

It's simple you implement it the way the Peoples Republic of Tassachusetts has. Have a very small number of seats in the required class and arrange that they're all filled by politically connected/anti-gun people; before announcing the date/times to the general public.

Today's lesson is brought to you by the word "niggardly". Remember kids, don't attribute to racism what can be explained by Scandinavian language roots. -- Robert Royall

Then my apologies. I didn't want to say anything if you weren't, but it's near impossible to tell sometimes.

Yeah, I know, that's on me. I try to keep that in mind when reading replies. I love to see the humor in things whenever possible. These days it seems there is a lot of material around. While I might joke about what I would like to do to perpetrators I don't believe I would joke about the victims. Child Molesters (anyone that preys on children), Rapists or any violence against women, Terrorists are all the scum of the earth for me. Sure there are others but those just cause my blood to boil.

I was caught in a similar job a while back. Problem was, this massive VB web project didn't want to convert to C#. As far as I know they're still running that VB.Net, framework 1.1 app.

Why in God's name, would they? Anybody who calls himherself a .NET programmer and can't work in both languages is kidding himself. I note that on your website, you don't say that you won't sell your work to people using VB. . . Presumably that's because it doesn't make any difference which language they are using - any difference at all.

Ooooo that's good. Man, I'm going to start trying to make a living of figure out loopholes to screw people out of their rights. It might even land me in government someday  Seriously that's messed up. Surprised nobody has brought this up and held their reps accountable to change the law.

"Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe." ~ U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein; Associated Press, November 18, 1993 "And, I know the sense of helplessness that people feel. I know the urge to arm yourself because that's what I did. I was trained in firearms. I'd walk to the hospital when my husband was sick. I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me." ~ U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein; C-Span April 27, 1995
