God Hates Fags church threatens to picket Basingstoke[^] Basingstoke? They're even more stupid than I thought (and believe me that's saying something). Still, if they turn up there* they'll at least have to face the local chavs. That should make for quite a spectacle, I expect. The local re-enactors (who are well used to scaring off the local chavs, on account of they know how to use steel weapons and the chavs don't) probably won't even have to turn out, though I'm sure they'll be quite content to jeer at them in "Olde Inglish" (or German: one of the groups is Hussite) from the comfort of the nearest pub (IIRC it's The Litten Tree; 50 yds up the road from the theatre) "A Pox on Westboro". Let's see them stick that in their self-righteousness and smoke it...:mad::mad::mad: * I used to live there, so I figure I can say what I like about the place. If we come across any of those idiots in Bournemouth I'm sure we'll do exactly what we did to Christian Voice in 2004 - outnumber them, sing hymns at them, and make them look really, really stupid (not that they need much help in that)....

Nothing could make them happier. Westboro Baptist is primarily funded by litigation after counter protesters grow violent. If anyone takes a swing at them, they'll sue that person, every other counter protester, the organization they were protesting against (collectively and individually), the local govt (collectively and individually), and the local cops (collectively and individually). And while the chavs collectively are unlikely to be worth more than the value of their next pint, some of the targets will have assets and liability insurance to vacuum.

If they tried that in the UK they'd be very likely to be arrested for inciting hatred long before they got a chance to cause a disturbance. Our laws have a slightly different nature to those in the US - although litigation culture is present here to some extent, all bets are off in cases like this. We'll see..personally I doubt they'll even get into the country (though I do admit the thought of them running into some of the more undesirables who frequent our "crap towns" is not at all dissatisfying!).

Those guys are an endless source of tragic comedy. Have you seen the doco that Louis Theroux did on them ? It's on youtube, I believe. QANTAS was playing it for a while. They don't have anything of his on anymore, so I bought his book, it was equally entertaining.
