I'm a Roman Catholic and my parish is St. Monica's. Saint Monica was African. That fact may account for the significant number of Black families that are also members of the parish.

By any chance do you know a family named Morris that attends there?

no, not that I can recall. It is a pretty large congregation so it is very possible that we simply haven't met.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

My son's been dating a girl who's family attends a catholic church in Indy with a largely black congregation. I don't recall the name.

She is a good girl, but for her to stand up for her views is unusual, which is why I was excited by it. She's usually too worried about being accepted, which I get, but I obviously want to encourage her to move beyond that.

Magic's buddy says, we're too timid to discuss race[^]. He needs to get out more, there's no need for a discussion. I live in racially insensitive Indiana and anywhere I go I see (gasp) mixed race couples. My advice to Holder is to shut the fuck up, the problem is correcting itself by youth who typically cannot see race through the hormonal haze. And, haven't we just elected (dare I say it) a mixed race president? Any other predominately caucasian nations done that?

Mixed race but what about mixed culture? I used to have a Sri Lankan girl friend who's family had been in Australia for years and we had very similar values to each other. We never had any problem related to differing skin colour. Had she been from a conservative Muslim family all hell would have broken loose.

The first love of my life was the granddaughter of a Jewish woman who was the only one of the eight members of her family who escaped the holocaust alive. She did not trust, like, or want to have anything to do with goyim like me. Whenever I would visit Marcia in her house, her grandmother would lock herself in her room and pray very loudly (in Yiddish, but Marcia translated) that I (for instance) would become rich, buy a house with a thousand rooms, and die in everyone of them before I defiled their daughter. (Defiled, I believe, meant holding her hand.) Although the parents had lived in the U.S. all of their lives, they were orthodox Jews - kept Kosher, used no electricity on Friday night, etc. Marcia was as all-american as you could get - cheerleader, senior class vice president, yearbook committee, etc. but ultimate the family pressure succeded in tearing this Romeo away from his Juliet. I never saw her after our senior year (the same year America answered the question of whether a Catholic could become President), until we both attended our 25th reunion.

My wife is Japanese, and my new mother in law is Vietnamese (and slightly older than my wife and I). It's hard to get more cross cultural than that. Great family. Her dad wasn't the least bit happy about the idea at first, I think his reservations were more about culture and distance than anything else. Well actually, I think more than anything else it was about letting go of his baby girl. Can't wait to see them again, we're heading that direction next week. There's a lot of talk in Japan about racism. The Japanese traditionally see two kinds of people in the world, Japanese and everybody else. On some level, we're all still dirty barbarian Gaijin. But the majority of people, especially younger people, are intensly interested in other people and cultures, which may account for some of the racism of the older croud. I never saw much when I lived there, but if you look close enough, it's not too hard to find some old codger inconspicuously glaring at you as if to say "we used to eat people like you in Nanjing."

Was never an issue with me before, never even considered what race someone was with whom I associate. Don't look at the purple elephant in the corner of the room. That said; I reject the government telling me when and with whom to associate. To Holder, I say. MAKE ME.

Was never an issue with me before, never even considered what race someone was with whom I associate. Don't look at the purple elephant in the corner of the room. That said; I reject the government telling me when and with whom to associate. To Holder, I say. MAKE ME.

My niece had the opportunity to say that to his face, but since he's her boss, she decided not to.
