I've Googled this and so far I'm having some very mixed results. I'm finding some secure FTP servers I can buy for a couple thousand bucks and I'm reading that some people have made a secure FTP with IIS (which seems laughable to me). Does anyone have any experience setting up a secure FTP on Windows? Did you buy one that you like that wasn't the price of a small child? I realize I can Google and have. But what I'm after is some insight from this fine group of astute individuals that has provided Jedi Knights with sound information for a thousand generations.

If I use FTP I send/recieve encrytpted zips only, no way I know of getting around sending clear text pw's with out third party component. How about Toritous/Subversion over https? Have not tried it but it sounds possible.

What's your definition of "secure"? Not passing plain-text passwords to log in? Encrypted data traffic once authenticated?

This is one reason why none of my departmental servers are windows. A SFTP server on *nux is free and easy to setup (well as long as you do not want virtual users and bandwidth throttling per session). Some company makes their own version, puts a fancy GUI around it and sells it on windows for thousands of dollars.
