Why is it so?

So this morning I have to get up about an hour and a half earlier than normal for a teleconference. Well about 3am-ish I'm woken by a beep. A minute later, another beep. What the hell? The bloody smoke detectors batteries have gone low haven't they? :omg: So there I am, three in the morning, on a chair taking the smoke detector down, and ripping the batteries out. Every smoke detector I have ever owned (3 or 4) has decided to go flat when I am sleeping. Why can't they make one where the batteries go flat during the flamin day! Try waiting til morning to replace the batteries. This way they'll have a head start on going flat when you need them to. Or, if you want, I could mail you some batteries from the western hemisphere. Over here batteries always go flat during the day.

I'll take guess that the low of temperature has an effect on the batteries output, so at the coldest time of operation they are more likely to drop below the minimum amperage setting. :-) Also its amazing the number of people with smoke detectors that have flat batteries, and often when they give their warning beep people think its a mouse or insect. If I leave my mobile phone on, if someone rings and leaves a message on the phone (like at 8pm) it deliberatley waits until 3am before ringing back with voicemail. The bugger. It's deliberatley doing that, I know. "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered" George Best.

There are smoke detectors that hook up to your electrical system...haven't replaced a smoke detector battery in 15 years... ;P
