So..., im at the point where my 32bit Win Xp machine just seems to slow, running VS, email, other apps I just cant be doing with constant lack of memory (I have 4gb installed). Now I run vista at home on my Media PC, since SP1 and other patches seems reliable but im not using it everyday, my main pc being a win xp works great. So at work I have my 2 x dual Xeon 2.33ghz, 4gb mem, 120 gig SAS 15k drive running win xp. Im at the point now where I need more memory im looking at doubling the memory but I need to upgrade to 64bit, I like winXp but some 64bit apps now only run on vista. Or I could try putting in a req for a new machine http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/workstation_precision_r5400?c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&l=en&s=bsd[^] Or should I just wait for windows 7, whats everyone else running? (more than one machine)?

If your machine seems slow with xp it will seem slower with vista. Alot of people come to me on a daily basis and say my machine is slow, how can i make it run faster... and usually i ask them are you running a virus scanning program? These programs usually have byte checking services running, slowing down the other programs and network packets getting to the network card. Best thing to do to make an os run fast is: 1. remove bad software. 2. remove virus scanner/blockers or limit there activity. 3. remove surfing pop up blockers. 4. remove uneeded services/tasktray/startup. 5. Invest in faster harddrives, motherboards with bigger caches, memory. 6. Turn off windows firewall and defender, replace with hardware firewall or turn it on in your router. Also if your machine is running slow and you want to remove apps... the best thing to do is not unistall any app because most of the time people dont make unistall programs correctly and they leave alot of junk in registry or harddrive, etc. So do a clean install with what you need only... Then make a running ghost copy. Try to seperate files from os with two drives. That way if you need to dump and start over you just have to wipe it and ghost a new. If your browser is running slow, its probably either: 1. Internet is slow. 2. Dns Servers are slow. 3. Bannerware, spyware, etc. slowing you down. 4. Virus Scanner packet inspectors. Hope i could help. :-D

I use of Vista 64bit Ultimate(Pack1) its very good for me(I dont know about other versions of it) I installed my programs on the Vista and I cant leave it I can work with visual studio on the vista without any problem Personaly I am acquiescent of it and inverse most people that they tell vista is not good of course you need to powerful hardware,I have xp on my system but I dont use of it except some specific times Of course I think minimum memory for vista is 4GB with 4gb it works fluent of course you can also use of a Usb flash a 32gb usb flash( with ReadyBoost).

My experience doesn't reflect this at all. Have a 2.3G dual core, 4MB memory, and I am extremely pleased with performance compared to XP. I know this will bring the Vista basher's wrath, but I'd never go back. When Win 7 comes out of beta I plan to upgrade to 64 bit.

Hi ziwez0,My name is Ron, and I’m part of the Windows Outreach Team. Just thought I’d drop this link off for you. It compares the different versions of Vista. If you’re looking to make that jump, it should help: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx Let me know if you have any questions. I’m here to help out.Cheers,Ron Windows Outreach Team
