My customer asked to me to install some nice programs in your new desktop. "No problem" I thought. And now I see the installed SO is BitLinux[^]... After some minutes trying to explain differences between Linux and Windows, the customer "acepted" use Linux. And it started my adventure about to install new programs on BitLinux. First I tryed update Firefox from 1.5 to 3.0. I was to getFirefox.com, downloaded and... nothing. Googling, googling and I discovered that "BitLinux" uses Fedora Core 6, so I need find compatible packages. The package manager doesn't help. Googling, googling again and I found the Fedora Firefox packages. Downloaded and... nothing! It needs a lot of dependency packages... that of course I don't have idea where start... I'm tired! 1) Why that Bitway (company that sell the pc) didn't created an website that run on Firefox 1.5? [^] 2) Why that Bitway doesn't installed Ubuntu? It's sooooo easy... 3) Why the" open-sourced" world of linux is so "closed"? The packages are incompatibles between distribuitions... When you search for packages looks that you are entering in the dark world of the Internet... 4) I'm taking hours to install Firefox! At windows the installation is so plug-and-play 5) How the son of my customer (the primary user of the pc) will use this? How I cannot convince my customer to purchase the original Windows Vista ~ R$ 250,00, looks that I will deliver the PC "as is" and he will purchase a "alternative" Windows version for R$ 10,00... :sigh:

Just install the latest Ubuntu or Fedora or (other preference) over it.

xacc.ide - now with TabsToSpaces support
      IronScheme - 1.0 beta 2 - out now!

I agree... That would be the right thing to do...

have they removed access to the fedora respositories from that machine? i would have thought that something like yum should have firefox available. I don't think the problem here is with linux per se but more with the particular flavour that has been used. I never trust a company that has "mystery meat" navigation on its front page! Go for ubuntu, fedora or mandriva and use the "add remove programs" or "manage packages" utilities in them Russ
