    That's the second hard disk of mine to fail in a year :| No, I haven't lost any work - RAID 1 + nightly backups! But £75 down the drain :( Both were Samsung drives, but both were also running Vista. I'm wondering if all that pre-fetching and indexing is such a good idea. I'm waiting to buy a solid-state disk, but they're just not ready yet. Nick

      That's the second hard disk of mine to fail in a year :| No, I haven't lost any work - RAID 1 + nightly backups! But £75 down the drain :( Both were Samsung drives, but both were also running Vista. I'm wondering if all that pre-fetching and indexing is such a good idea. I'm waiting to buy a solid-state disk, but they're just not ready yet. Nick

      We're they also from the same batch. If so, that's more likely the reason for both to fail.

        No - bought about 6 months apart. One was 500GB and the other 1TB. And they were in different computers. They both failed after about 3 months use, though. I bought them in pairs and the other ones and their replacements are fine ( so far ) Nick

          I had a couple of Seagate drives fail on me within a year 500gig. I never had drives fail before that.:mad:
