How hard can it be, for f*ck's sake? They have to match your skills with an employer (OK - there are some technical issues that I can't expect them to be over, but really, suggesting a role as a UB developer?) They have to send your details to the employer (surely they should check they're not sending them to your current employer first?) They have to tree up an interview. SO - I get the call- interview arranged. I took the day off work (plenty of time to prepare myself and get there). I had four emails and three phone calls from the agency in teh week between getting the interview and the interview itsel;f - including a call ten minutes before the interview. I get to receoption, introduce myself, explain I am here to see XXXXXXXX for an interview. "Are you sure?" she asks. He's interviewing someone now - what time was your appointment?" "Four thirty, I smile, I am a little early (it was 4:27 by their clock)" "Would you like to take a seat?" Time (ten minutes or so) passes, with a lot of whispering going on - then she gets me to write down the name of the agency and my name etc. Yep - no appointment had been made at all. None. Didn't know who I was. Not a clue. The guy doing the interviewing was good enough to offer to stay back, if I could wait an hour or so, and interview me - but I figured I'm not going to interview well after staring at a wall for an hour, and I wasn't exactly in the best frame of mind already. I have another appointment today - and he better be expecting me this time or - well, I don't know what I can do - and that is perhaps the most frustrating thing!

Maybe you should go for a job at an Agency?

What about the ones who advertise a vacancy that doesn't exist on the chance they might get a great candidate and interest the client in them?

WOW! I never had such thing happen to me and I don't know what I'll do to the headhunter. The closest I had was, after setting up interview date I got call for reschedule because the headhunter screw up.

that is typical. They tell you, they will keep you in file for 6 months and if anything comes they will contact you. uh..oh...Thanks, but no thanks...

Tough times are only going to make this worse as the more creative and skilled HH sink deeper into the scum we will be subject to ever more bizarre attempts to get a company to pay a fee. The HH actually knew the interviews and who was doing the interview so you were not just being jerked around for the fun of it by a vindictive idiot, I wonder why the HH actually sent you there, did he respond with an answer. A number of years ago in the UK I was sent for an interview a satellite city of London, had to hire a car and drive for 3 hours to get to the interview, no interviewer, the guy was not even in that day. I did force some compensation from the agency and I believe the guy was fired as he embarrassed the client company as well.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity RAH

When I worked in Birmingham, UK, my boss (whose name was John Wayne!) was sent the resume of one of the current employees by an agency, to apply for a vacancy we had. he took it well - but could have been a real problem!
