Truth about Easter
-
AFAIK Easter is named after the Pagan Goddess AOSTRE who was represented as a Hare. The Eggs are a sign of New Life, and so the early Christian Church 'adopted' Aostre. The hare became the Rabbit. It is not the first time Christianity has nicked other peoples Ideas. Mithras was an Early deity whose birthday was 25th December, who died to remove our sins and who came back from the dead three days later. I think this is a little familiar. Thank God I am an Atheist!

There's a shed load of monobrows who will damn you for that quote! There is a huge Pagan/Christian crossover. The early [Roman] Church tried to retro-fit the Christian festivals into existing Pagan celebrations. However, the real meaning of Easter? We [that's Christians] are remembering the Last Supper and First Eucharist [Thursday], Jesus's Crucifixion [Friday], the vigil at Christ's tomb [Saturday] and then the Resurrection [Sunday]. The dates chosen are, I agree, arbitrary, but the celebration is not. Within the Christian faith this time of year is far more important than Christmas. The culmination of Jesus's ministry and the revelation of the Son of God. The last week before Easter, Holy Week, starts with Palm Sunday and Christ's Passion - calm down you smutty heads - when the return to Jerusalem and Christ's trial at the hands of Pilot are remembered. I like the well forgotton part that it was Christ's own people who asked for him to be crucified and not the Romans. Pilot wanted to give him an ASBO, as is again popular, but the establishment screamed for blood. I won't try to tell anyone that they should be Christian. But if you want fun with the extreme evangelicals - who come up and say 'Do you believe in God?' - just say you do and that you are catholic because they run screaming at the word. I find it funny because just about EVERY denomination uses the same line in their profession of faith "We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church".
Panic, Chaos, Destruction. My work here is done.

The Protestant Church is catholic, just not Roman Catholic.

Fred__ couldn't be saved
Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.
