Here's a puzzle for all you geniuses out there. Don't even need to know about games so can be boring ppls. =P I recently upgraded my gfx card from a 512MB Nvidia 8600GT to a 1GB Nvidia GTS 250. In all games and graphics programs so far, I've had a marked performance increase except for one.. In Counterstrike Source, I'm now down to lowest possible settings with 3 bots on an offline map and it's running horribly. 10fps if that. Any suggestions as to a fix? Graphics is fine, RAM is 2GB, dual core processors, etc. So tech wise, I should be fine. I know, it's technically not a programming question or the usual type you'll see on here, but that's why it's in the lounge. =P

Yea very strange, like you said you should be fine. I was running CSS years ago on my old 3gig P4, 512meg RAM, 128meg graphics card (the brand fails me, it was a while ago) with medium settings. Many processes running in the background?

My single experience of an NVidia card ended very quickly when it wouldn't run the bundled Splinter Cell game at anything above about 3fps. It went straight back and I've stuck with ATI ever since.

Average processes is round 40. Windows processes, antivirus (the ones I can't kill), some for the onboard sound. But it was running great on my older card with Windows Media Player, MSN, IE7 (with a heap of tabs), etc, in the background. Adding more graphics power, dropping settings to nil and killing all non-essential processes shouldn't make it go worse.. *head : desk* @Caslen Googly first always. But I was on lowest specs as it was. Couldn't get any lower. Didn't try changing the amount of available memory though.. @Steve_Harris Used to be Nvidia and AMD. Now it's Intel and not sure. AMD was going great for awhile. Nvidia brought out the 9800GTX and finally became half decent. The GTS is 'sposed to be equal or better to the latest ATI around. Till you actually use it anyways. lol @sk8er_boy287 It's zombies. ;P In Left4Dead. :-D Although raptors are quite close behind.. :suss:

Could it be you've not got a decent OpenGL driver for the new card (but everything else you've tried is using DirectX?)
