Free WinRAR...

So, I need the manual to my washing machine. A whirlpool. I found a free download, but it's a stinkin' RAR file. Neither PC or Mac knows what to do with a rar by default, why use that ? WinRAR has a free version. To activate it, I need to send two SMS messages to get a code. Each costs $4. How the HELL is that free ? $8 is not the point, the point is ethics and lies. No way do they get my money. the thing still came with nasty toolbars, etc, even tho they want me to pay.

Does seem like a strange choice. Perhaps something here will help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rar#Software[^]

Thanks, the underlying issue turned out to be a mechanism inside the tap so if it ever got water in it, a sponge got water logged and blocked the water. Thing is, the sponge is impossible to dry out, I suspect the idea is to buy a new hose. I just wedged some wood in there to open up the valve again and bob's your uncle.

What are you talking about? Winrar has an evaluation version that nags you but never expires. No SMSes, nothing.
Cheers, Vıkram.
Carpe Diem.
