Anyone got some numbers - places like Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm etc. 'Typical' packages for experienced C++/Windows/UNIX etc ? Many thanks Jerry

I think you'll have to look closely at living costs as well.

No idea. About 15 years ago I worked around Scandinavia and I can tell you that the cost of living if you smoke/drink is very high. One hotel I was working at in Copenhagen (the SAS Scandinavia) charged the equivalent of £5.80 for 1/2 litre of beer at the bar - this was 15 years ago remember! Also, if you're going to be paying income tax in that country, that is also at a very high rate (or was then anyway). Accordingly, wages appeared quite high, but they didn't go very far.

Not a direct answer to your question but this quote "Salary level is standardized, linked to your graduation date and the kind of position you have in the company. Statistical information on salary levels is well documented and provided by the labor unions. The Unions support their members in their negotiations to help them get a more successful career path. However, if you are not a member of the Union, you don't have access to this information and you often get a lower salary offer. If you want more you have to fight for more. There are always special deals if you are wise enough to find them. You are not supposed to talk about your salary among your colleagues and they are really astonished at you if you ask them how much they earn." is from Working in Latin America and Scandinavia[^]. As far as the cost of living is concerned, it is extremely high. The most expensive meal I ever had to pay for was in Iceland, it was excellently prepared but was 'normal' food, nothing caviarish/champagneish.

At that rate the meal would have been the equivalent of buying a Hamburger, unfortunately it was > 20 years ago.

A Swedish friend of mine based in the UK (for many years) writes: "Haven't kept up at all, a lot less than here I think, and especially after tax (though I did get an ad for ASP.Net etc for £30 - 60,000 in Stockholm today)."
