I always think of Hovercraft as being the height of 70's Travelling Sophistication. Crossing the channel in a craft that was bedecked in glorious brown formica, and that curious beige beloved of Austin Allegros that seemed to cover all the seats. One could be whisked away to France in slightly less time than it took to swim and have a memory of dashing captains, all chisel-chinned and flinty-eyed, with waitresses serving drinks at an altitude of 3 feet. Them were the days! Another British Invention that has now passed, like Concorde and Reliable Trains.

'parantly no! Hovercrafts, and with them eels, are still in production and continue to be a success. Or at least that's what they said on Today this morning. [They also had a ukulele[^] playing news reader.]

Panic, Chaos, Destruction. My work here is done.

I've been on the hovercraft from the Isle of Wight back to the mainland - bit bumpy, but completely unlike any boat trip you've ever taken.

Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p

I understand that it managed to blow out all the candles, in one go, too.
