Star Trek was done very well and covers a lot of moral topics.

All this discussion of conspiracies got me thinking about the episode of Star Trek TNG called "The Drumhead". In it, a well respected admiral from a famous and respected family in the federation comes aboard the Enterprise to look for the cause of the warp drive casing failing. see here[^] Every time I hear claims of conspiracy I think of this episode and where it can take us. The fear of Al Quedia(sp?) drove the US to do all kinds of things that we know full well are wrong and counter to what we're supposed to stand for. But since what we stand for is so easily subjugated to placating fear mongering and alarmists it gets distorted in the process.

Many criticize McCarthy for his tactics. I've never heard him criticized because he was wrong. :rolleyes:

There is, of course, a reason for that. Though, in fact, the leftists and fellow-travelers did spend two generations asserting that he was wrong. Turns out, with the opening of the KGB archives, we see that he was right. You never can trust leftists, or their fellow-travelers, to tell the truth.

I actually heard things like this when 9/11 happened, but it certainly wasn't me saying it. The phrase that was most often coined to me was "to turn their countries into glass".

As I get older, I find myself second guessing assumptions of youth, I did hear about KGB archives, that is what convinced me he wasn't as daft as I was lead to believe.

But it wasn't "youthful assumptions" which lead you to believe that McCarthy was daft -- you were force-fed that belief all through your schooling (just as we all were). Leftists set the tone in what we quaintly call public education, and their goal for it is anything but education.
