Today is the start of a new regime. As of half an hour ago I no longer have any icons on my desktop and my taskbar is set to auto-hide (which I have never done before). All my former desktop icons are squirrelled away in 'All Programs' or are pinned to the Start menu. My colleagues give me 3 days before I revert to my old ways. :)

It's the way to go - I use StarDock too, keeps everything nicely tucked away until I need it!

RocketDock and the Stacks docklet, there's just not enough room otherwise!

Indeed, that's as it should be. I'm always amazed when I see a Windows system that looks like a Mac; all that crap cluttering up the desktop.

Indeed. I click on the "My Computer" icon on the "Quick Launch toolbar", then click the "Up" button, and there it is. :-D

Good choice! I like to think of the initial open desktop as a zen garden of peacefulness and relaxation. When I sit down to work I want the first thing I see to be positive and encouraging I don't want to be instantly stressed out by 5000 icons all over the place blaring out at me.

What do you do when you want to hide something from your boss (like boobies from your favorite auto-internet-wallpaper tool)? Those icons are actually useful, but people don't see it yet. At home, my desktop is clean as a whistle and it's about the only thing I stare at most of the time. ;P EDIT: Good thing they made them sizable (as in "bigger") in > Vista. :)

Never used RocketDock. I use a nifty, tiny little program called SlickRun[^] to launch my apps.

In my case I'm in a partnership with my wife so we're both the boss and we work from home more often than not, but she has absolutely no problem with me looking at boobies or anything else as long as the code continues to come out. She's an excellent wife in every way and just as likely to be looking at boobies or other stuff as I am anyway. ;)

Meh, I prefer the cluttered desktop. Who needs a my docs when you got a desktop? I use the quicklaunch bar (or run menu win+r) to launch all of my apps and use my desktop to house all my projects/documents. I don't need a start menu or a mydocs folder.

Yep - looks adequate to me so far...
