Dear Chris....

So there I was, madly clicking all the interesting links in the newsletter, in preparation for untold hours of whiling away somebody else's time, when it happened: unspeakable noises forcing themselves off of a webpage, through my headphones, and into my unsuspecting ear canals. Wading through my double (at least!) digits of open webpages, I eventually determined that the source was not some advertisement that had snuck its way past my iron grip of my local machine, but rather a webpage that I had opened in good faith from this very same, much esteemed newsletter. Luckily, the page did, in fact, have a Pause button, so I shall be able to see in a bit whether or not this video was worth the potential hearing loss. Which brings me to my point: While videos are becoming increasingly (which is saying something) common on the intarwebz, and I can see how their presence on the newsletter is unavoidable, could you at least warn us if a link in the newsletter will open a video that begins of its own volition? It would be even better if such things were kept to a minimum - could you have found a related text-based page to share the same fascinating insights? - but I think warning is the least that could be done in such cases. Thank you. P.S. Is there a more preferred way to get these concerns to management, or is posting in the Lounge here good enough?

Typically, comments/complaints to management go in the Site Bugs/Suggestions board[^] I'm fairly certain people have stated that those posts go straight to Chris' phone ... or maybe it was his brain ... either case, he'll see it there, and he generally responds in kind to those posts.

I will have a stern word to Mr Newsletter Writer and ask for pity. (But I totally agree. Instant-on videos and sounds should all die a horrible death)

Thanks. Though, having now actually watched the video in question, I can totally understand why an article just wouldn't have been quite as..... awesome. Seriously, the thing had me more entranced than a Youtube video of a spinning spiral. Geckos are awesome.

... or, you could go into Mr. Newsletter Writer's office, turn his speakers on, crank the volume all the way up, then EMail him that very link out of the News Letter and just say "Please go look at this and tell me what's wrong with it" ...

Yeah, it's worse that those tend to be at the bottom of the page so I have to scroll down to silence it then go back to read what I came for.
