Hooray for Microsoft! They should go back to buying software from everybody - they obviously cannot code. And don't give me the krap about thousands and thousands lines of code or bashing Microsoft.

Hi Jörgen, This is exactly why I disable automatic updates. I have been caught in several situations like this over the years. I wait for the smoke and dust to settle and manually select my updates. Best Wishes, -David Delaune

I'm not using automatic updates. I have it set so that it notifies me before anything is downloaded. I just figured it would only be a binary patch for dll and lib files. I've never had any problems with automatic updates before (except for some that have reset my firewall settings).

Hey Jörgen, Guess what?!?! I installed the latest Visual Studio 2008 security updates for Windows7 and now half my projects will not compile. I got hit with this issue: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vclanguage/thread/ad698507-d62c-4e7b-bb7a-12a03b939594[^] Anyway, I thought of your post when I discovered why my projects will not compile. According to the guys at Microsoft I need to either reinstall Visual Studio 2008 or the remove the security patches. I knew I should have waited longer before installing those updates! Best Wishes, -David Delaune

I uninstalled the patches, reinstalled the SDK, and reinstalled the patches. Then it worked. I *think* it was that order, because it was some time ago, so I've already forgotten the details. I found that to be less of a hassle than reinstalling the entire environment. But yeah, I can understand your frustration. It's especially annoying when you have dead lines to meet...
