I don't think that happens, at least not in the US. Of course, I have a very limited data set.

Well, that is what people SHOULD be aggitating for then, not to ban sex education all together.

The issue is that kids are working out where it goes, without understand what happens next. The media encourages them to experiment with sex, and hell, it feels good. That's why it's important for them to understand exactly what leads to pregnancy. I house sat for someone once, and her daughter had a ton of dolly magazines. We read them for a laugh. Girls were writing to ask if oral sex can make you pregnant, if it's true that you can't get pregnant if you enjoy it, etc. That sort of ignorance leaves girls in particular open to all sorts of lines that end up with pregnancy.

Yes...I guess I needed the irony icon. Parents who think they are preventing teen sex by keeping them ignorant, may find out that ignorance isn't a barrier.

Here, kids in the low teens do a class where they get a baby doll that cries at night and needs to be changed. That's the sort of thing that sounds like a good idea to me, make them appreciate the reality of having a child, and then see if they make the right calls. And that is the sort of thing that goes on in sex education classes here, not showing kids porn or talking about how you can do whatever you want, if it feels good.

They are a myth. I think the disagreement lies in who should do the educating.

It was cool, wasn't it? I wouldn't want to have been involved ... or to have to clean up the mess ... but it was an awesome video.

Yes, that was the point I think Christian was making about being involved enough to find out what is being taught. Parents should have the right to have their child exempted from the class without repercussions if they don't like what is being taught or if they feel like it is the parents responsibity to do the teaching.

Well, if you're too stupid to know that, then surely that proves that you are too stupid to teach your kids about sex, which is why the schools should. Boys have a penis. Girls have a vagina. This is teaching. Boys should put their penis into every vagina they can. That is advocacy.

Exactly. If the school has to be transparent to parents, that only makes it more likely they will teach the facts without any sort of advocacy that parents may object to.
