Now that would be ironic haha. Could be a problem with the site I guess it wont load for me anymore and the nice guys at Mozilla wouldn't censor it would they? ;) Unless Microsoft have got there too :O

Try now. It was down for a few minutes for me too, but was up a minute ago.

Clear as day, on Opera, so I wouldn't be surprised.

It appears to be a function of Bing keying off the word "why" and the phrase "so expensive", while Google essentially ignores the why. I'm guessing that the developers at Bing are trying to do something with contextual linguistics in their searching.

Case in point: a search on Bing for the phrase, "Why is Windows so expensive?" returned this as the top link.... "Why are Macs so expensive." That's right. You're not hallucinating. That was the top response on Bing to a question about the price of Windows. Oh great. Another reporter who doesn't understand the basics of search engines reporting on something naively simply to cause a stir and get some attention. Look at the two phrases: "Why are Macs so expensive" "Why is Windows so expensive" They are very, very close, and if the phrase "Why is Windows so expensive" doesn't appear often, or there is a similar phrase that does appear often, then the search engine will suggest that other phrase. Maybe even the search engine knows the phrase is to do with computers so picks a related phrase to do with computers that is similar. And guess what: the phrase "Why are Macs so expensive" is not exactly an uncommon phrase, hence it gets suggested. Oh - and if you follow is damning link you'll see the search engines (both Bing and Google) are working exactly as one would expect. Gimme a break.

cheers, Chris Maunder The Code Project Co-founder Microsoft C++ MVP
