I prefer uTorrent. It's lightweight and seems to have a low memory profile. My only quibble is that it always minimises to the taskbar when I press the close button

I second uTorrent... And you can stop it from minimizing to the task bar in the options area. Just un-check the 'close to tray' option.

Too disinterested to bother, I use it to get TV shows from TVTorrents and thats about it. I have no interest in watching low quality movies and I prefer to actually pay for software (games etc). I'm the sort of person who buys a CD changer, sticks 5 discs in and forgets about them. Pisses off the other half to the point where she changes the discs.

You can download high quality movies as well these days, just takes longer.. (though the quality is not worth the extra time IMO, it's not like the movie actually becomes any better)

I don't watch that many movies and we have one of those DVD delivery subscriptions which meets most of our needs. Any really good ones I want I buy as bluray movies. I'll not download hi def movies, takes too long. Did I mention I have a dramatic lack of patience.

Transmission (on Fedora 10) The big problem I see here, that it sometimes says: Too many files open, and takes a Pause by itself.

FDM[^] is my choice. It handles all the downloads (along with torrents).

I use µTorrent (yea that's a µ, a mu, not a u, just press Alt Gr+M) But I use Azureus sometimes when I need someone quick, it's much faster (but it has a tiny file cache so it rattles my hdd too much for seeding - if I want to do something in the foreground as well, which is pretty much always)

Only works when set to a US keyboard layout - standard UK ALTGR key combos by default are € and ¦ only. You can add accents to this with the UK Extended keyboard, but µ is still not available. Use ALT+0181 on the numpad to get µ.

I use torrentflux. It sits on my NAS Box (NSLU2 running debian) and I can connect to it from anywhere via its html front end. If I'm at work and a new version of a distro that I want to use comes out I can set it to download from the office and it's done when I get home. I'm currently doing some testing for Ubuntu 9.10 so it saves me loads of time to have the latest image downloaded and ready to roll by the time I get to my desk at home. It also means that in the early hours of a release when traffic is heaviest I can get the thing downloading and set to seed and hopefully help improve the bandwidth available to people who are trying it out.
