I had a 7 iron under our bed for a while but I never put it back after I last played golf. Never really felt the need to be armed and I'm pretty happy about that.

No, nothing is real and real is nothing.

Just out of curiosity Christian, how do people in Australia defend themselves? Mace? Tazers? Ninjutsu? Are more classes in self defense or martial arts being taught?
When the guy coming in is not going to be carrying more than a knife, the block buster or a good piece of timber is all you would need. This is the difference between guns and a contact weapon - a guy with a gun shoots you and it ends. A guy with a knife has to swing at you, and you can better fight back. He's more likely to just run.

So you are implying that people who own guns are uneducated? It sounds like that you are saying that education is some type of political indoctrination that you are proud of. We have many exceptionally intelligent highly educated individuals who advocate the right to bear arms. I would argue that they are more educated than people who claim that guns are bad.

I've owned guns and been around them all my life. My family owns guns, all my friend own guns. None of us have ever killed anybody with them. And thankfully none of us have ever had to use them for self defense. We either hunt or shoot targets with them. So the over generalization that guns only serve to kill people is absurd to me. For me guns are tools. How you choose to use them determines if they are a danger or not.
Christian Graus wrote:
What other purpose does a gun have, than shooting things ?
None, my point was that the previous poster was stating that their sole purpose was killing. This simply isn't true. Shooting != Killing.

Well, that works for people who live in an area where they can hunt, and who choose to do so. It's still an instrument of death, or for practicing to kill things later.

Of course, in that, as you say, owning a gun does not mean you've killed anyone. It DOES mean when your 17 yo son decides that Marilyn Manson is right, he can get his hands on a gun to act on his convictions.

It is hilarious how you people have reversed the logic of owning a gun to point out that only the "bad guys" have guns and that owning a gun will cause you to get shot. Instead of you being able to shoot the guy and end it, you turn that on yourself and you get shot instead. Physical contact is the last thing you would ever want. It is incredibly asinine that you believe that the government (who has guns by the way) taking your right to own a gun, somehow makes you free and safe. I guess since you are a complete retard I suppose it is best for you to not think about guns.

I have the right, and it will never vanish. It is a God given right, or a birth right for atheists. That is not disputed among the free men and women who support the constitution and fly the Gadsden flag. They are willing to stand their ground in any situation no matter how grave or dangerous and fight tooth and nail to defend their God given birth rights.

If freedom and safety are birth (or god given) rights, why again do you need that gun?

There are always psychopaths and conquerors, and the only way a free society can ever draw the line is if they have the means to fight back. Its all to common for the government to rule the people, and for the government to have all the guns and all the power. The people work their butts off and only get to keep half of what they earn or less, the rest goes to their masters. Once free people lay down any of their rights, they loose them all.

Yes, perhaps the words I used were not small enough for you. Let me try again. It's called first hand experience. I know a great deal more about guns and the issues involving them than you ever will with your tiny little viewpoint. Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them a troll. A firearm is a weapon, not a tool. A tool has a useful purpose, a weapon's only purpose is to kill things. Just because you can kill someone before they hurt you does not make it a defensive measure. It simply means you have half a chance at offing them before they off you. That's attacking, not defending. It's called murder in self defense, not 'oops, he must have bounced off my bullets and killed himself when he tried to attack me'. Note the key differences there, one is you attacking them, the other would be if the gun was somehow magically a defense mechanism.

What a berk, how many presidents have been shot? if everyone was armed how do you protect anybody? how is a gun defensive? its an offensive weapon by definition, the treat of a gun is only effective against someone who cares, if the gun was an effective deteriant then you would not have had s president killed as every single one (except maybe lincon!) had armed guards. oh and how if a country that if so safe because of it right to arm bears has had so many presidents shot? gainst how many in the UK and these other slave countries? and exactly how did he stand up to anything? he wore a gun to an event! an event where the use of a gun would be extreamly dangerous in the hands of an unknown quantity, an event in which there were already a lot of heavly armed and nervous people, and in a state were the carrying of said gun was allowed, so whilst doing nothing for the "cause", he actual made the situation more dangerous so showing an exteam lack of judgement. if anything this stunt has forwarded the cause for the baning of guns as it has shown that it allows the guns to be in the hands of people with a distinct lack of judgement.
On the other hand, I remember my thoughts the first time I walked by the white house. How can such a place of power be so unprotected? There used be streets around the house with a lot of traffic, and only a few meters of lawn between the footpath and the building. I think I've read somewhere the city of Washington DC had been designed with an open mall so that people could gather and share thoughts. The white house was supposed to be open for the people to be heard. So coming from one of those "safe" coutnries where guns are outlawed, I had a hard time understanding why the place where the president of the USA lives was just not as secured as it is in the "safe" countries. Unfortunately, these things have changed since '01. Now that ordinary street along the white house is closed and no one is allowed there. Sounds like you people have lost a lot. Some of what made this country so great was about individual liberties.

...a "one size fits all" health-care plan will be ordered upon the people of the USA... ...and President Obama buys a european car: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papamobile[^] That is the European way. (More seriously) I think this is amazing, that guy was actually allowed to carry a gun in such a situation. This is a great proof of individual liberties in the USA, even though this is certainly controversial. I hope this guy can keep on going with his rights as a US citizen, and to see President Obama riding a hummer some day... The american dream lives on, but there is nothing such a european dream, so far...
