iPhone and Verizon?

I keep hearing anecdotally from friends/others that Apple and Verizon will be announcing a relationship in early 2010 that will bring the iPhone to the Verizon network. There's been rumors like this before that were debunked... does anyone know of any information about it that is more substantial?

One of my former classmates works for Verison and claims it is coming to. Don't know how much I trust him, but with several features blocked or not at full because of ATT network, I don't doubt they are looking.
