Weven and .iso tools

Hi, I just installed Windows 7 and so far so good. I do need to be able to save DVD's as .iso files and then burn said .iso files back to discs - a requirement that comes from having kids that like to watch DVDs but do not necessarily know how to handle them properly... So what are you using? The ability to map an .iso file as a drive would be helpful, but not essential. I started installing Daemon tools, but it gave me a compatibility warning, plus my latest install of XP was starting to behave quite badly, maybe because I had Daemon tools installed (can't confirm it however). So, any advise would be most welcome. Regards, Daníel

I normally use 7-zip and extract the iso files. That what I do to MSDN iso downloads. If required I just burn from the original ISO or the extracted files. Windows 7 has built-in support for burning ISO files.

is a feature you will never see built in to windows as it violates the DMCA. That said DVD Decrypter[^] is great, thought getting dated, I know there are some issues with it and newer DVDs. There's a new anti-copy scheme that required another tool to make the ISO workable, they introduce predictable invalid sectors to make a traditional read invalid.

I understood that this capability was to be built in for Weven. This[^] seems to confirm it. Of course it probably won't work for DRM stuff, knowing M$.

I've used Virtual Clone Drive[^] for that on 32 and 64 bit Weven

I second Virtual CloneDrive. I started using it when the Weven beta came out since Daemon Tools didn't really want to work with the beta, where Virtual CloneDrive did. I also like the fact it doesn't want to reboot when I install it, like Daemon Tools does.

I second Virtual CloneDrive. I started using it when the Weven beta came out since Daemon Tools didn't really want to work with the beta, where Virtual CloneDrive did. I also like the fact it doesn't want to reboot when I install it, like Daemon Tools does.

Seconded. It works very well and it also feels more polished than DaemonTools.

For what little I do, I use DVD Decrypter.
