C# and VB.NET apps look tacky
-
I.. I can't put my finger on it. I guess it's related to my form- vs dialog-editor skills. :) When I'm using the C++ dialog editor I feel like I get the spacing between controls more right than using that crap grid system in the form editor. -- Giles wrote: You Scandinavians invaded my home land, like 1500 (+-500) years ago, and kept coming back for more. Ahh, I see, so this is just an attempt to disguise another rant about rubber-bands :-D I think the grid works pretty damned well as it is. But I'd assume you can change the spacing and/or turn it off if it really bothered you. Combined with the align buttons and being able to adjust things manually if really necessary, I'm failing to see the problem. Paul

Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: Why does C# and VB.NET apps look so tacky by default? MFC, WTL and even raw Win32 has a nicer cleaner look than a .NET application using standard components. Shit, you must have way better drugs than I have because I think they look the same if done right.

Cape Town, South AfricaRiley is on to something.. it's just me being grumpy about not having the rubber-bands/guides. :) So, it looks tacky because I have problems with the form editor. Damn it people! Do you have to see through everything I rant about? Can't you just agree and rant with me? :-D -- Giles wrote: You Scandinavians invaded my home land, like 1500 (+-500) years ago, and kept coming back for more. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: So, it looks tacky because I have problems with the form editor. Rant on Jörgen! I think the form designer sucks worse than a pack of rabid vampires past their prime! I get so damned frustrated trying to inch pixel by pixel to place the control just to the left of another control so they snap together. Meanwhile I could just frikkin type the code faster, and be more satisfied. The form designer is nice for your first time, but like sex once you tried it that way you want to go straight onto doing it on the coal face.

And I don't mean that command line rulez; it's just these boring buttons, textboxes, combos and data-bound grids which make me sick X| X| X| Especially when some poor guy writes simple app for removing POP3 emails and uses owner-draw semi-transparent oval buttons with audio feedback for plain OK and Cancel pushbuttons Rant is over - now grill me you formorons :) Tomasz Sowinski -- http://www.shooltz.com
