I can't believe that they tried to install updates behind my back. I've just received update notification for my vista, it said 2 important updates, and they weren't listed as normal but were hidden, and the updates list was empty! The first was Office Genuine Notification Bastard! Luckily, it will ask you to accept EULA so you can prevent it from installing! I don't want any of those 'Genuine' stuff on my system so I declined and chose "don't notify me about this update again". The second update was normal Windows Defender daily update but even that was hidden! It looks they decided to ruin retroactively even old Office 2003. I suggest to everybody to set their update mode to "notify me but don't install" if you don't wanna wonder the next day what's happening with your windoze/office. ______ appropriate soundtrack: The Haunted - Moronic Collosus

I have updates on that setting anyway, so I don't wake up with my 'pay as you go' bandwidth all finished just in time to send an important email.

I got caught out with this. I don't care how many security updates I have to install, but the second that they put something on my computer which just serves to work as an advert, my opinion of them drops. I don't normally do this, but for the people who have been mislabelled by this update (like me), some people have found a way to remove and disable this useless update.

              It still comes back eventually.

Yes, I always set it to that. It's not just because of things like Genuine Notification. It's also to reject potentially hazardous items such as Windows service packs or new Internet Explorer versions (although the latter doesn't auto-install anyway).
