That's the Dalek Dave effect. Iain.

I have now moved to Sweden for love (awwww). If you're in Scandinavia and want an MVP on the payroll (or happy with a remote worker), or need contract work done, give me a job! http://cv.imcsoft.co.uk/[^]

Saw this in the paper today. :omg: http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=204933[^]

The explosion on the roof of Risala police station on Saturday afternoon was caused by the callousness of two policemen who were smoking on the rooftop of the building, officials of the bomb disposal squad (BDS) disclosed to The News. Speaking on conditions of anonymity, BDS officials said that potassium nitrate, also known as saltpetre, was stored in a container on the rooftop. The chemical is an important component in explosives, and is inflammable, they explained. However, they alleged, the two policemen on duty used the container as an ashtray, and consequently, things took an ugly turn.

Cheers, Vikram. (Cracked not one CCC, but two!)

This may be a propaganda from pakistan gov. to hide it terrorist attack to their police station. (May be) this days terrorist activities and bomb blast becomes casual thing for them.

I don't think they were particularly callous, more kind of Stupid. Also, saltpetre is very unlikely to explode. It needs a high surface area and an incenduary, it's breezance isn't high enough. Mix with carbon and sulpher, I prefer to do this as a paste, in a 15:3:2 ratio of Saltpetre, Ground Charcoal and Flower of sulphur, and some water. Mix well and allow to dry to cake. Using lead balls (No sparks from lead) tumble in an airtight plastic container until the cake has turned to powder. For effect, add tiny amounts of magnesium and aluminium powders and roll into tubes. Et Voila, homemade fireworks.

You can also make gunpowder using the Kirk method (see act four):

            Website:

Using sulfur, coal, potassium nitrate, diamonds, and a bamboo-like plant, Kirk constructs a makeshift cannon.

I can't remember where, but I saw some show or movie that was playing that episode of Star Trek on a TV in the background for a few seconds. I had just watched that episode a few days earlier, so I was pretty excited and recognized it immediately.

Visual Studio is an excellent GUIIDE.

You get more efficient gunpowder if you exchange the water for an ethanol water mixture (popularily known as vodka) as the water dissolves the saltpetre and the alcohol dissolves the sulphur. This was the original purpose for the first distilleries.

Thankyou for that, I may try it, but a general rule of thumb is Alcohol + Explosives = Ooops!

Even more fun, and a LOT more dangerous is mixing ammoniumperchlorate and aluminium powder. (Think space shuttle rocket booster) ;P Ammoniumperchlorate selfcombusts under pressure even without fuel which makes the grinding process a bit hazardous.:suss:

It even says so at the end of the article

                      Somebody wrote:

The DSP, however, said that it was not a serious incident but owing to media hype and panic created by the rescuers, it came into limelight.
