The "Fixed that for you" trend

Am I the only one annoyed by the recent upswing in "FTFY" (Fixed that for you) posts around the place? Not just at CodeProject, but everywhere it seems. Are people trying to be funny? If they are, it seems to fail rather spectacularly. It just comes off as arrogant and petty to me. Rather than phrase their own thoughts in a sensible response, they just cleverly strikethrough someone's post, and put in "fail" or some other equally groundbreaking insight the world can't do without. Or maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Or toilet training me 2 year old just isn't that much fun any more. Oh wait, "Or maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed and am a whining old man and should stop whinging about forum posts like a big girl". There, fixed that for me.
I can't speak for others but it can have it's place where you want to comment satirically on someone elses post. You are acknowledging what they say, but then commenting back to them with a certain irony.

I reckon that is my biggest beef with it, I know that those are the things it's supposed to be doing, but it so very rarely comes off as neither satire nor irony, but usually as unimaginative or childish. Oh wait, I can't speak for others but it can have it's place where you want to comment satirically on someone elses post. You are acknowledging what they say, but then commenting back to them with a certain irony miss Aussie meat pies at the footy. :) I had a pie the other day, and thought of the poor North American folk missing out.

Thanks for that. I was sitting at home last night, watching the snow streaming north of us on the weather radar, thinking how good it would be to go down to the local greasies and get a half-a-pounf of chips, some grilled whiting and a couple of dimmies. :sigh:

I'm lucky enough to be cruising up to Canada soon, but boy oh boy am I not looking forward to the fish, chips and pie withdrawal symptoms I'll no doubt get.

I don't see it as people trying to be clever, but rather people jumping on the trend of a novel way of making 'micro-comments' on somebody elses post.

Ah, but that's thinking for pleasure, defugging, or just asking questions in a place where there might just be someone with an answer. Not quite the same thing as doing it because it's in your contract that you have to.

And that's exactly why they come here! A good rant helps clear the mind, so that you can get on with the job. A bit of silly humour works, too -- even pun threads (not really my cup of tea). But if something about the lounge is peeing you off, you've just got to ignore that bit, and use the bits that work for you. I.e. if you don't like FTFY posts, have a good rant about it, and you'll feel be... Oh.
