Vista lesson and VS2010

Does anyone think Microsoft has learned the lesson of Vista and only release VS2010 when it is ready? From what I have read, there seems to be some issues with Beta 2 and there are people asking for Beta 3.
I think MS will follow their release plan as usual. That means, they won't fix known bugs because they're scared they might break something else. I've been told that .NET 4.0 and VS2010 are already "locked down" currently. If a bugfix requires an API change, it won't happen in this release.

This is what happens when you let your marketing people run your company. Sooner or later you should release 1.0 and yes, it will still be buggy, but for goodness sake when the community is pointing out that it needs fixing to even be worthy of being called 1.0 software, someone needs to grow a spine and tell the marketing guys they aren't writing the software.

If you leave it just to the developers, software will never get released. :) Developers do need some dates written in stone in order to hurry up and complete the product with a set of features. Now VS 2010 is already late if you look at the history of VS releases. VS2008 was available in late 2007, VS 2005 in late 2004 and so on. So hopefully, most of the issues will be resolved when VS2010 is released.

That was the case with VS 2008 as well (or was it VS 2005). I think VS is so complex that it needs at least three betas, especially when there's a major IDE revamp as there is for VS 2010. Whether there is a Beta 3 or not I know that some issues at least have been addressed in later builds. I saw a blog post yesterday, can't remember where. They should at the least not make it gold before the end of February.

Every project I have ever worked on could have been finished well before time with the original stated set of features. And then feature creep comes in from sales and the release dates are missed. Dates set in stone are only achievable if the specification is also set in stone. Won't ever happen.

As Daniel said, .NET 4.0 and VS2010 are already "locked down" currently so that the product can be released next year.
