Free Timecard Software - Web Based
-
My company just changed the way they want to do timecards. I suggested they put it on-line. Does anybody have any suggestions for either free or cheap Time Card programs I can get? I'd actually like source code so I can change it to my liking. TIA - Jeff.

I no longer can point you to the info, but maybe ten years ago we obtained a web based time card system from the NASA. We got the source code, but our MIS people never got it working, I think mostly because they wanted to write their own. All software NASA develops using public funds is available to the public (with restrictions if it has military applications). Here is a lead on the NASA software i mentioned above: http://ipp.nasa.gov/innovation/innovation103/7-techop.html[^] "With the ETC system, employees can easily keep their timecards up to date and accurate through simple time-field entries. The system simplifies the daily entry of work hours for employees, who select job codes from lists provided by supervisors. Supervisors can also review employees’ timecards electronically from their own office at any time during the week. Both employees and supervisors use electronic signatures to verify the information. Through this electronic submittal process, timecards can be turned in on time and without the risk of being lost or misplaced. NASA seeks to transfer this software free of charge to qualified US companies for their own internal use. However, any company or individual desiring the software for commercial purposes must apply for a license from NASA."

I looked for this about 2 years ago, and while I don't remember the specifics, there were no available products, free or for pay, that met the requirements. We ended up writing one ourselves (the only time I wrote ASP.NET). We had some very specific requirements (just like everyone else  ), and it has been 2 years, so ymmv. We were on a non-connected network, so the on-line (hosted by the developer) options would not work out for us. Depending on the group, you might be able to interest them in folding changes you make back into their product. That way you get what you need, and don't have to own it, and they get additional functionality without having to build it.
