Backup Software
-
I was wondering if there was any software available that can backup a harddrive to a bootable CD. That way if something were to happen to the partition table, or whatever, on the harddrive a person could simply insert the CD, reboot the computer, and restore all the data from the CD backup. Like some computer manufacturers ship a "Quick Restore CD" with a new computer that way if something happened the owner just booted from the "Quick Restore" CD. Does anyone know of a software package that can do that? Justin Turney

If you're using WinXP, then you can use the built in Automatic System Restore feature... Norm Almond: I seen some GUI's in my life but WTF is this mess ;-) Leppie: I made an app for my sister and she wouldnt use it till it was colorful enough:) Norm:good point leppie, from that statement I can only deduce that this GUI must be aimed at children:laugh: Leppie:My sister is 25:eek: -Norm on the MailMagic GUI

Sonork | 100.21142 | TheEclypseYou're thinking about System Restore which uses checkpoints. I'm talking about Automated System Recovery. Which does put the entire hard drive onto removable media and then when your computer just totally craps out on you, and you go to insert your Setup CD, you can press F2 or something for ASR. This'll restore everything from your hard drive when you backed it up...so there...;P;) Norm Almond: I seen some GUI's in my life but WTF is this mess ;-) Leppie: I made an app for my sister and she wouldnt use it till it was colorful enough:) Norm:good point leppie, from that statement I can only deduce that this GUI must be aimed at children:laugh: Leppie:My sister is 25:eek: -Norm on the MailMagic GUI

You can check previo. It does a backup on a server and let you burn a recovery CD that boots the PC and restores the data from the server. It works well for PCs on a lan or a fast wan. -- Looking for a new screen-saver? Try FOYD: http://digilander.iol.it/FOYD
