I'll probably be bounced from CP for my heresy but, I just received an email "cajoling" me into uploading my Azure Contest app with the promise of a Win7 OS. I know MS is 4-5 years behind Amazon in the "Cloud" but I'm struggling to see the "hook" with going with Azure before it has been fully defined. Just my opinion.

I don’t see anything wrong with it. Microsoft is trying to promote Azure and for any platform to be popular it needs to be adopted by the developers. If developers do not try it, they will never know what it is in it and how it is useful. So this way of promotion is not at all bad. It is Microsoft’s Azure and Microsoft’s Windows 7, so what is the problem if Microsoft gives away one product to promote some other product.

No, there's nothing wrong with Microsoft promoting their own products. What's happening in the Lounge and now with uninvited and unwanted emails from CodeProject is completely over the line. If it were any other company besides Microsoft, these blatant ads we've been seeing in the Lounge would have been squashed day 1. Instead, it is slithering into our inboxes. Once again, guys, how about taking this stuff out of the Lounge and into its own forum?

          Best wishes, Hans

You are right, the emails did not respect the profile setting. I have "Occasional offers for CodeProject members” turned off, so I should not be receiving that email.

"lot" is your word. I'm assuming you mean many. Once again we're debating Azure vs. "the cloud". Who is running an enterprise application in the "Cloud" that has enterprise level acceptance? I know M$ is putting a portion Office 2010 online - but is that in the "cloud"? I don't know. You say Cloud Computing is to become very important in the next 2-5 years. I heard the same thing about Oracle's Net Computing 10 years ago. We'll see. I'd like to see someone come out with a sales pitch that says the cloud is the future and "this is why" So far all I've heard is "there are too many servers - too much capacity and we've invented a new technology to help you with a problem you may or may not have" What is the ROI? Do you have examples?

I think I have to write an article on it as I have been in this argument many times. Stay tuned!
