I received some of these "ads" and disabled the service. Actually is quite simple doing this. And 5000 ads per hour? These guys never heard of multithreading... My latest articles: Desktop Bob - Instant CP notifications XOR tricks for RAID data protection

Yeap, I also disabled the service :-) Cheers,Joao Vaz And if your dream is to care for your family, to put food on the table, to provide them with an education and a good home, then maybe suffering through an endless, pointless, boring job will seem to have purpose. And you will realize how even a rock can change the world, simply by remaining obstinately stationary.-Shog9

Is this making use of the 'net send' command on the command prompt, if so then you should really disable all protocols except TCP/IP on the computers internet connection, as the PC would be making visible any availiable network shares and other NetBIOS based services. Franky only a complete monkey would connect to the internet with all these things enabled. Kind of asking for it. Thinking about it, say on Win2K, if you made a new internet connection(not LAN), only TCP/IP is enabled, meaning, you would have to manually enable it. When your on a corporate network, you would have this enabled, and the company firewall should block this, so it would only effect home users connected directly to the Net. I remeber having fun with net send ages ago, as yes it looks like an admin alert e.g. c:\net send username_here message You could sacre people be saying 'Do some work', as it only gives the name of the machine from which it was sent.

That's the biggest problem - security people don't share knowledge the way crackers / spammers do. Until we start doing that, they will always find a way. :suss:

Now you could sell your own software to Prevent NETBIOS spammer, which stops/disables the messager service, at $10 a copy. Unknowing users would be it. Developing with C++ is like programming by the seat of your pants

Please stay where you are an administrator and security guard will be with you shortly. They will be wearing long grey coats. What else have they left themselves wide open for. Can't see what the fuss is about. Never mind Windows. If thes kind of users where on Unix, they would have put a blank password on the root account. Its a user thing, not an OS thing.
