The wife tells me there was a notion common in Victorian times, that held a woman wouldn't get pregnant unless she enjoyed the sex. This custom might have similar roots. These societies are so mysoginistic to begin with, they're going to blame the victim in a rape anyway; it probably wasn't much of a stretch for them to blame the victim for getting pregnant, too.

Iran: Sharia, homosexuals are punishable by death, oppressive regime. Afghanistan: need I say anything? China: as above. Nepal: decades long civil war, starting to look better. Bhutan: the one country I'm proud to call a neighbour without reservations. Myanmar: need I say anything? Sri Lanka: decades long civil war, starting to look better but serious human rights abuses persist. India: many problems, yes, but never known the spectre of military rule. Govts have risen and fallen, but only ever by the ballot, never the bullet.

There was a young punk and his brothers/friends did raped a number of girls in Sydney last decade and the local mufti proclaimed that the girls were like meat on display and how can you expect a cat to resist that. The brothers are serving looong prison terms and the mufti was drummed out of office. It is not geographic, it is cultural.
