I don't know the story about this guy, as I've been preoccupied of late. It could be the case that he has been given "a second chance" before. Maybe a third, fourth, fifth, etc. At some point people won't just have it anymore. Such is the case with for instance CSS and fat_boy. They just don't know what social rules are. Even though people tell them they don't want to hear their endless rantings, they just can't stay away. CSS has more manners than fat_boy on this subject, and CSS is a drug head!

I've noticed a certain person with negative reputation has been in the lounge a lot lately. And almost every post is grey. Thing is, he's been trying to change his posts. Very few are whining, very few are attacks, and in fact most of the recent ones have been jokes, jests, poking fun at himself, or in general trying to change to not be a complete douchebag. And they keep 1 voting him. I don't get that. Yes, he has a history of being a twit, I get and understand that, but if his post is not deserving of a 1, he is sincerely trying to change and he is behaving, why give him a 1? I realize people may be expecting him to get stupid later, but for now why not use positive reinforcement to encourage him to keep trying to not be a douche? I may be a post whore, but I try and have fun and hope others do too. If he can change so that people aren't pissed at the universe whenever they see a post from him, why are we not helping him see it is a good thing? anyway /end rant
IMHO there are two things: 1. In, CP, you cannot swim upstream. See, I might sound offensive, but one thing that I have noticed is that people are stereotyped here. If I post 10 posts which are against the flow, I will be damned, always. Your user name dominates content of your posts (programming forums excluded). 2. Any post should be treated as an opinion. No matter what link you attach to it, it is an opinion (at least for me). Internet is no way a trustworthy source for controversial things. Be it CSS. Be it CPianism. If those guys are posting something, it is there opinion. You should not try to change it just because you think they are wrong. See, they might be posting crap for ages, but one decent post which just does not states anything stupid does not deserves to be univoted. Believe me if those guys post that "My username is XXX. What do you think? Is it cool?" this will be univoted. For sure. For me, what's wrong in this post?

Oh really?[^] This is the only article I can find dealing with a univote in the first 100 pages. I don't recall ANYTHING like that in the lounge by Crhistian prior to this one. Note he wasn't talking about CPian. Let's see how he did react to CPian, shall we? Cheek, turned...[^] He indicates he is willing to give the guy a chance, and it appears that he has. Heck, other folks were making jokes about 1 voting in a thread after that one I just linked. Yes, Christian has harped on him, no doubt. Christian being mean[^] But this is older than that other post. It was before CPian told everyone he would try and fix how he behaves. You know what pisses me off about the Republicans in the US? Their inability to understand that with the current level of tech, every one of their stupid, obnoxious, and transparent lies can not only be disproven, but it can be done in a matter of a few minutes, and with little to no doubt as to what was actually said. You attributed something to Christian that was false, attacked it and made your position seem stronger. You used a strawman. I hate them and everyone here knows I call them out. You do it again with the Oakman comment. I have yet to see Christian univoted by folks based on that event. I see his posts with 5 votes frequently. Acting like he is not well received while your posts are regularly in grey text or simply deleted is attempting to attribute your own situation on another person and then attacking it. I'm calling you out on this one too. The last line is pretty telling in that. You really feel the need to attack someone to be popular, go ahead, but pretty much everyone that read that line suddenly realised what your real beef is. Christian may be a jerk sometimes, destroy any piece of tech that
Actually I thought it was a pretty funny post of mine, and I am sure Christian can see the humour. I think the only person who actually understands my sense of humour is jew_boy. Oh well, such is life. Actually Christian is generally OK, He is boastfull, and he likes to label people, but apart form that he is OK.

Yea, I have noticed CPian's posts trying to be funny, and not to be a douche. He really is trying, sometimes a bit too hard, but he seems to want to change. Don't get me started on fat_bastard. I love how he keeps trying to ignore the ban in the lounge on obviously political posts. AGW is not going to be anything but a political post the way he goes about it.

You assume that unpopularity is a fault. It isnt. Desire for popularity is a fault.

not sure if he has or not. was wondering why people weren't giving him a chance even after he started trying. He's been doing okay though trying a bit too hard sometimes. The other two, well, I have been on the receiving end of CSS losing it because he can't win with anything aside from name calling, I understand.

Yeah, and I"m all for that, no matter who it is. Which is why I was surprised by fat_boys accusations, although as he is stalking me, I'm sure he remembers my posts better than I do, but I as a rule certainly try to judge each posts on it's merits and not judge by the poster. How else is someone like CSS going to change, unless we let him ?

Yes, he seems to be bleeding through the entire site now. Because some people in the soapbox 1.0 love in have told him he is a prophet who must make his message heard, or something.

I agree just univoting things is wrong. I [honestly] haven't univoted this guy except on a post's individual merit. I do admit to checking previous posts, which I mostly univoted on individual worth IMO. Since the "New Start" I have univoted far less, again on my opinion of the merit of that post. This is despite the fact I had an acutal run in with the guy, he tried to get me banned when I quoted one of the funnier conversations he had with Chris Maunder as a Sig. I'm finding his current behaviour worse than before, because, at least under his previous guises ("Teh programmer", and "The Artist Formerly known as the newest member") he went too far an got himself banned and went away from a while. I suspect this pattern will be repeated. It's interesting review this to see how many boxes are ticked: troll-tactics[^] Currently, the flooding of the relatively harmonious lounge with on-the-boundary-of-trolling posts is causing dischord, the existence of this thread is testimony to that. This is one of the more subtle troll tactics. I've just reviewed his last 200 messages, outside the non-technical he's been involved with < 10 threads, and frankly none of the questions or answers posted was "Properly" technical. Again another sign of trolling. I don't know whether he is a troll or not, but until I'm more sure of him I'm "not engaging" as much as possible.

For the record, I think you're a self righteous, hypocritical moron. I have recently posted about a few people in the lounge, who blew my mind because I answered their programming question, and they then attacked me for it. However, I don't recall ever having a run in with CPianism, although I do recall speaking to him, I don't believe I am at the root of people's attitude towards him. He did post recently about his desire to change how he posts, and I advised him to do it instead of talking about it. Either way, it's kind of ironic that you'd make this post about me, when what you're doing is making me YOUR whipping boy, as is your wont. I guess you got mad at me for responding intelligently to your mindless AGW posts ?

Quite correct, I was mistaking him with one of the other people you villified in the lounge. Why do you do this so much? Surely if someone offends you you deal with it there and then. To bring the matter to general attention makes me think you either enjoy twisting the knife, or the public humiliation of that person. In any case the Lounge specifically states no flame wars or abuse. Dont you think that doing what you do id inflamatory?

This is the sort of attitude I think needs to be the norm. "Did this post suck?" Instead of "Is it this guy?" He seems to have quite a few people following his posts because the moment he steps out of line the post goes grey faster than a girl living in a trailer park loses her dress on prom night. It looks like he has at least been given some benefit of the doubt because the better posts get upvoted, average ones sit there and bad ones get dropped fast. And really, I think this community can and shoudl police itself this way. Fairly but with no reservations when it comes to smashing down trolls.
