so, i'm in the market for a new computer

my gaming machine is on the verge of breaking down (it was great 3 years ago when i bought it, but 3 years worth of gaming has taken it's toll) so, i'm in the market for a new gaming PC, and need someone who actaully understand all those new keywords to plan one for me :-D so, go wild, or not, i have a budget of 5000$ (not including monitor, which i already have, and everything else (mouse/keyboard/speakers) which i already posses)

Dunno if there's any need to go wild, I spent less than £1000 on mine and not found anything that remotely stresses it.

You really do like your games, don't you? :)
Me, I'm dishonest. And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest.
Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for...modified on Sunday, February 21, 2010 9:34 AM

Fairly simple:) Highest speed Intel Core i7 (below the stupid extreme editions) X58 motherboard, in which ever colour you like:) 3*2Gb DDR3 if its triple channel mb, or 2*4Gb if its dual channel. 80gb Intel SSD for OS. 128Gb+ SSD for games. 1/2TB HD for other data. ATI RadeonHD 5970 card (or 2 if your driving a 2k or 4k res projector:p ) Asus Xonar HDAV sound card (for your HD audio bluray bitstreaming) PSU modular >800w If your lucky the ATI 5970 cards will fit in a ThermalTake Level 10 [^] case.

$300 i7-930 (alt, $1000 for a hexacore 980 ETA soonish) $300 Mobo $1400 2 Radeon 5970's (alt, 2x GTX480 - if it's faster. ETA next month, NV press event scheduled today at 9am PST) $450 160GB intel SSD for OS/apps $100 normal HD for media $200/400 6/12GB of DDR3 (I don't see a need for 12GB atm but since you're budgeting for a stupidly expensive system...) $200 1000W PSU $2000 either two more monitors at your current size or a set of three for an eyefinity setup. 3x30" is a bit outside your budget (unless you already have one); but would be the god option if you have a big enough desk.
