My new modem comes with new software. The Mac version LOOKS connected, but after a brief amount of time, it will in fact stop receiving any data, will not recognise the modem if I unplug and reconnect, and basically will be useless until I reboot. If I call support, they won't offer meaningful support to the Mac version, I doubt they even have seen a Mac in real life.

That is one of the disvantages of having a Mac (and no valid alternative to Telstra, I guess). Mac people have sometimes painful experiences with external devices. :)

Yeah, I can see that. It's not Apple's fault, but it makes sense that Telstra, or any other company, puts most of their resources into the part of the market that is by far the biggest.

Most modems are made for consumption in the U.S. market. Because of this they are manufactured to run right-side up in the Northern Hemisphere face-first. Turn your modem upside down and rotate horizontally 180 degrees and it will work as expected.

It's actually not possible. And even then, I don't see how they can make their software work if I can't.

*grin* I believe Oakman did that joke yesterday.

*sigh* I wish. My inlaws are on internode on my recommendation. I used them when I lived in suburbia. Telstra wireless is my only broadband option.

Dude, It's high time you considered a trip to India. I know a particularly powerful witch doctor who may be able to help you out... Just don't go back and post "Why I hate witch doctors today"
