Logan's Run was dull, Blade Runner was dismal. Paid to see them both when they came out, wouldn't watch either one again for free. And 2001 was simply excruciating (much like the first Star Trek). No, they weren't all this dull back then. My only guess is that these guys assumed the audience would be on the same drugs they were taking when they made them.

Copywriting Services2001, I never actually made it through... When I was REALLY young, I have vague memories of one of those kiddie books-on-tape... Like a 10-page baby version of 2001, ending with the computer voice singing "Daisy"... Then, sometime during college, I decided to watch the actual movie... I remember it being about ten minutes of silence, then another half hour of just monkeys grunting... The first words were spoken a good 45 minutes in... I don't remember watching much past that... I was so sick of it by then, that I just couldn't go on.

Just watched this old movie for the first time yesterday... I know it's supposed to be required viewing for all self-proclaimed geeks (Along with Blade Runner, which was much better), so I dutifully put in the two hours to subject my neurons to this incredibly dull film... Now I realize this movie was made several years before I was born... But come on... Were all movies that SLOW? More than a few times, when the characters were escaping from the city and seeing all of those "new" (old) things, and going on and on about how strange they were, I found myself saying out loud... "Ok, we get it, let's move on..." Sure, the different perspective is kind of interesting for a couple minutes, and I assume that it was new and revolutionary when it first came out... But it was just so painfully slow and drawn-out... Not as bad as "2001," but still... Ugh... Oh, and on a side note... First time I saw the main character, the first thing that went through my mind was, "Hello, Austin. I'm Basil Exposition, from British Intelligence." Fun little laugh...

I had that book too! I listened to it several times a day. Almost wore the tape deck out. Never did watch the movie though... It's saying something about a movie when you can condense it down to a 10 minute audio book for kids that they'll listen to over and over but can't get adults to watch the whole production. :laugh:

The Gun Kata - which oddly didn't turn out the way the director originally wanted it but it made sense for the Clerics to be more robotic in their form of it than he wanted so the result worked. He changed it to be more flowing for Ultraviolet though. I mean it never would've worked but still, the final runup was quite a work.
Heh, I was going to mention Ultraviolet... The fighting style in that one DID seem similar... Another very cool movie... I like when she goes through the weapon detectors, and the machine starts showing holograms of hundreds of weapons... She's got that "Yeah, what are you gonna do?" look, and the security guards look like they're about to scream in terror. Kind of like Neo going through that metal detector in The Matrix, but much cooler.

Blasphemer!!! 2001 was amaaaazing. Okay, really, best way into 2001 is read some Clarke. Then read his "The Sentinel". Then go and see it on a big screen with great sound. Sit back and let it wash over you. Great film (though Forbidden Planet and Serenity are still my 2 favorite scifi films).

If you arrive at Charlie Chaplins great movies, Langs Metropolis or at Eisensteins Potemkin, you are so slow the MTV generation already falls asleep by looking at the download progress bar. :rolleyes: (though these are the movies that survived the tides of times. The early slapstick strips certainly were faster - not as fast as today, though).

Haha, so I'm not the only one! Do yourself a favor... Do NOT watch the movie... Unless you smoke weed (I don't), in which case, get stoned out of your mind and give it a shot. Friends have told me that it's actually watchable in that state.

Yes, but it was actually a really cool movie :) The fight scenes were better than in most films, in my opinion... They had this weird style of gunfighting where they would shoot and dodge based on the most statistically-likely locations of the enemies and incoming fire... Interesting concept.

Forbidden Planet... eh... I actually remember seeing an off-Broadway show of that... Vague memories, but it was eh... Serenity rocks, of course, though isn't my favorite. My all-time favorite sci-fi USED to be Minority Report, but I just can't deal with Tom Cruise anymore, due to a certain cult that might remain nameless... My #1 favorite is V for Vendetta, but I don't know if you can call that sci-fi.

Not a bad movie, but the constant internal monologues were annoying. I liked the book better, though I never read the rest of the series.

Ugh... Had to watch some of those in this film class I took in college... *shudder*... The slapstick bored me out of my mind too... And there was one other... Something about Paris... "A night in Paris" or something like that... So boring... Not a fan of "classic" movies...

Hey, nothing wrong with being short! It's the "moronic" part that's a deal-breaker. V for Vendetta isn't particularly amazing in any one way... I honestly don't why I love it so much, but I do... It's just so well-done... Avatar, I haven't seen... I actually REFUSE to watch it. Back when it was "coming soon," they were advertising it so much that I actually remember seeing four commercials for it in a row... First one for the movie, then one for the video game, then one for some kind of sponsorship deal (McDonalds, I think), and then another one for the movie as if I'd forgotten. That moment, I decided I just wasn't going anywhere near the amusingly-nicknamed "Dances with Smurfs"...
