I fly to England tomorrow to visit my mother. Last February, she fell over, broke her femure and cracked her (replacement) kneecap. She got her kneecap replaced (again) but began to exhibit signs of dementia (sundowner's syndrome). She's been sliding downwards over the past couple of months to a point where she is now refusing to eat, take her medications, or do her physiotherapy. The hospital is going to discharge her as soon as they equip her apartment with grabrails, etc. My sister (who lives close to her) reckons she doesn't have long to go so I'm either going to chivy her into bucking her ideas up, or say goodbye to her - at this junction I don't know which. I fly back Tuesday of next week, so I have 5 days with Mum. Wish me luck.

Good luck. That sounds tough. My parents are not there yet, but the last time I saw my grandmother, she had no idea who I was, it was pretty upsetting.

Spend the time with her; enjoy it... I lost my mother in '91... spent the last week with her; vary cherished memories. My prayers are with you. Tim

Good luck! Hopefully a visit from her son will do her the world of good. My Mum (who is thankfully still healthy) keeps pestering me to visit soon (she's in Aberdeen, I'm in Texas!) I guess I should make a trip soon while she (and my Dad) are still in good shape! (Good grief, my Mum is 69 and my Dad is 70! How time flies...) Have a safe and happy trip!
