... but check out this story in the Times - Found Alive: The Loch Ness Monster of the Northwest Prairie. Alas, It Disappoints[^]. A rare type of earthworm from the NW prarie was recently rediscovered, much to the worm's misfortune. These things are clearly endangered, their habitat has been all but wiped out, and biologists have been trying to find a live specimen for years. And they have succeeded on several occasions - killing the animals they find every time. Now, I'm no biologist, but what the fuck are these idiots doing? Don't you think that if an animal was this rare and endangered, you'd do everything in your power to keep live specimens alive? According to the article, specimens were found in 2005 and 2007, but all were killed during collection. So this time they find two live ones, one adult, and they kill it to confirm their identification. :omg: With allies like that, that poor animal might as well give up. If these biologists really want to help the thing, maybe they should just leave it the hell alone.

Makes me think of Tremmors. Classic film that. Scared the crap out of my wife while she was watching it. Took a loaf of bread and cut a mouth into it and put it on her shoulder while making growling noises. She must have gone up about 2 feet I rekon!

In related news, two local scientists will be out fishing this weekend. Aparently they are testing the use of worms. :)

Chris Meech I am Canadian. [heard in a local bar] In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is. [Yogi Berra]

I find this to be crass, vicious, evil, horribly mean, and utterly worth a 5. ;)

... in the hope that they may catch an endangered chub. In which case they plan on killing it to confirm the identification. But only if it's a breeding adult. :-D
