I despise the politics of it, but it drives me nuts that there are people who insist we can't possibly effect it and it's a waste of time to study anything related. How many times have people said humanity couldn't manage something and we prove them wrong? To many for me to be content with the assumption we can't screw ourselves over. But even still, we know changes happen, understanding why they happen and what they'll do is fairly important given we could blow humanity's collective foot off through ignorance. And that goes either way, restricting various growth in fear or blindly charging off with industry/population. If we knew the effects we could figure out what is the right course. But nooo... we get a bunch of political assholes involved who decree it couldn't possibly/has already doomed us. Drives me nuts.

If that link is accurate, then it's not federal law... Or at least, if it is, that federal law only applies to D.C. It says that it's up to each state to choose if and how to enforce it. Hmm... Maybe I should check New York State law and see how it's dealt with here... I think it's great to study it, if it's real study,I'm all for basic research. But I wonder why do people think it is the best the way it is? Change is constant,and the Earth has been changing for 4+billion years. How do we know keeping it the same is better than letting it change? That's a lot of either blind fear of change, or hubris.

Well, if you define "better" as "easier for the human race to survive," it becomes a little clearer... If the average temperature were to rise or fall by 100F, we'd all be screwed. It's also the place where a University president tries to suspend free speech with bullshit claims of terror threats; turns out the real threat was from other right-wing moneybags who threatened to cut the University's funding if a certain individual was allowed to speak. It took a Federal judge to restore sanity. ( Background[^], and the result[^]. ) From a posting by Mr. Evil himself[^] - 'A particularly despicable note came from a man who lives in Cheyenne and is active in a right wing group there; it said, "Maybe someone could take him out and show him the Matthew Sheppard (sic) Commerative (sic) Fence and he could bless it or something." He was referring to Matthew Shepard, the young gay man who was tortured and murdered in 1998, left to die tied to a storm fence outside Laramie.' I'm mexican, yes, yes, we (actually they, I wasn't even born) kicked the french asses May 5th when they tried to invade Mexico, but it's only a holiday for schools!!! it's not a mandatory holiday for all, here in the US it's where they made a big deal about it, I don't know who did it. And besides, I'm in the US, should I feel offended because I see american flags around all the time? NO, should I ask the company I work for to give me the american holidays and of course, the mexican holidays, just because it's very sensitive for me to celebrate the mexican revolution... of course NOT. I'm a country with different things I can't demand them to accept my ways, if all the mexican-american don't like it, sorry, but fudge them, the US has customs and ways, why the fudge they want to change it, if they don't like it, they can leave the country and go back to Mexico. what's next? The US celebrating the 4 of July and also September 16th (Mexican independence), because the mexican-american are very senstive about it? send them to Mexico. This one more reason why I support Arizona's law, if they don't like the american way, why even bother to come to the country?... illegals should be prosecuted as criminals (they are criminals) now americans can't show their pride for their country because some stupid mexican-americans (that are supposed to be AMERICANS) are very sensitive about a holiday that in Mexico don't give a shit about it

You want to hear something even more ridiculous than the start of the story...look here: Students Rally In Morgan Hill After Flag Flap[^] or American Flag Clothing Sparks New Protest[^] Basically, a large group of Mexican-American students (conflicting reports of between dozens and 200) walked out of class yesterday to demand to speak to the mayor and request that the amerian flag-wearing students be suspended. Amazingly, even in as liberal and illegal immigrant friendly as San Francisco is, according to the NBC Bay area website viewers, 93% are furious over it (though it doesn't say which side they are no...though the majority of comments that I saw are in favor of the American flag)

Well, technically, none of them were wearing the flag. They had red, white, and blue and one guy had a shirt that looked like the flag but the stars were positioned incorrectly (as in 8 across the top row) or didn't have enough stars. The others just had red, white, and blue colors.

No, hurting us would probably IMPROVE the environment. The problem is that most temperature changes that would hurt us, would also change the environment. Parts of it would be damaged, and other parts would flourish. Some species may be wiped out entirely, and others would spread to new regions. The ecosystem would adapt and continue in some manner, whether or not we're still here.

Well, once again, they want to preserve the environment just the way it is, usually to benefit ourselves. Usually there's some sort of justification for preserving a species, whether its extinction will reduce our food supply, allow some kind of pests to flourish, or just be pretty to look at...
